Students Attending the “Confucius Ceremony” in Jianshui

Jianshui in Yunnan is famous for the Confucius Temple. “Confucius Ceremony” is held in every April, but this year is very special. This year’s festival was called “Resolution from the Students Who Will Take a Test”. Twenty five students aged from 5 to 19 years old and their parents were invited to drive to the Confucius Temple in Jianshui. Each person was required to put on Han Chinese costume. They first worshipped Confucius and then wrote down their dreams on the balloons and leave them flying. The “Confucius Ceremony” was too interesting to attract many people’s attention. Two of Keats students Klaus from Germany and Peter from England attended this traditional Chinese event. They are very interested in Chinese culture. Peter’s first visit to China was in 1994 and he is especially interested in Chinese Daoism. It can be easily seen from his Taoist hair style.

At 9am on April 12th, on the road to Jianshui from Kunming, Klaus had a great time communicating with the kids on the bus. They exchanged their ideas and interests all the way to Jianshui.

After arriving at the Confucius Temple, excited, Klaus and Peter, same as other attendants, changed their clothes to Han costume. To Peter, who has a deep understanding of Chinese traditional culture, this was also his first time to wear the Han costume. They took pictures to save the beautiful moments. Then the ceremony officially started with traditional Chinese music. The atmosphere suddenly became very quiet and solemn. Klaus said “I was so impressed by the children’s expression”. Klaus thought that the children aged 5 or 6 might not know too much about its culture, but it turned out that they sincerely respect their culture, deeply from their hearts. Klaus said that it was a great to learn a country’s culture by attending traditional events like Confucius Ceremony. From a family point of view, the children stayed closer with their parents from such meaningful activity.

Moving to the section of writing dreams, Klaus and Peter also wrote their dreams and wishes on colorful notes and then attached the notes on the balloons. With a number countdown, people can see the colorful balloons were slowly moving upwards. All parents and children clapped their hands to celebrate the wonderful moment. We wish that all the dreams will come true.

Lastly, Klaus and Peter told us that they were very happy to attend this special event, which became one of the exciting things while they were in China. Klaus said that he would share his amazing experience with his family and friends after he went back to Germany. They look forward to attending more traditional Chinese events like this in Kunming.

Intensive One-on-One Chinese Classes

Listening and speaking in the classroom every day has improved my communication skills. After three weeks, my new words and sentences became more and more natural and fluent. Now I am used to thinking in Chinese, and I understand better what other people say, to be able to have real conversations with other people.

I decided to learn Chinese in Kunming because I like smaller cities and I like the climate here. We had four hours a day study here and my dear teacher taught me very much and never lost her patience with me. It was a really wonderful experience to be here and I recommend Keats school and the teachers here to everyone who likes to learn Chinese in China.

Intensive One-on-One Chinese Classes

It doesn’t matter what level of Chinese you have, or even you can start from the zero level. Your teacher will prepare the lessons according to your requirements. The advantage of living in the school is that you will have your tutoring, you will have your private accommodation with your own bathroom and all the meals provided. I highly recommend everybody to actually take the whole package because you get to meet other students.

Since last semester, we started studying Chinese at Keats. It was the best choice we can ever make. It is a really good school. The classes are a lot of fun, you learn a lot, but very interactive, so you talk a lot which means it is not just books and writing. Kunming is a really pleasant city to live in, especially if you compare it to other cities in the east. If you like to travel, if you like to study Chinese in a fun way, Keats has the best Chinese language program for you.

Intensive One-on-One Chinese Classes

My name is Sarah Fish. I am 81. I knew very little Chinese when I arrived. How was I going to survive 2 weeks of intensive Chinese course? I have to laugh when I think of that now. What a positive experience this has been! I really wish we could be here a little longer. The teachers are extremely encouraging, evaluating first how much someone knows, and then starting from there.

Intensive One-on-One Chinese Classes

I’ve been at Keats school and Kunming now for one month doing the one-on-one Chinese lessons with two different teachers. I really enjoy it. Both of my teachers are very friendly and patient. They really helped me to improve my Chinese, both of my reading and speaking. I really enjoy studying Chinese in Kunming as well. This city is really beautiful and the weather is nice, the air is clean. It’s one of the best cities in China to study Chinese.
