Kunming Keats School Had a Teaching Conference

Many people come to study in Yunnan recently, and they find Kunming Keats School provides different Kinds of Chinese Mandarin courses in China. This week, Chinese teachers in Kunming Keats School held a meeting on their experience of teaching Chinese Mandarin courses in China. They had also given some advice on how to improve their teaching skills and the quality of Chinese Mandarin courses in China, which would help a lot in upgrading the quality of Mandarin schools.

At the meeting, Mr. Yu was the first one to start the meeting. He introduced the lately situation of the teaching in Kunming Keats School, and he also said that Miss Dong had received praise from students who leant in Chinese Mandarin courses in China because of her positive attitude and careful preparation. Miss He’s efforts to improve students’ ability of learning Chinese were widely accepted by her students. They thought Miss He’s teaching method and content were of much more fun, and they also said that Miss He supplemented many interesting things when she was teaching Chinese Mandarin courses in China.

On how to improve Chinese communicative skills, teachers in Keats School summarized two useful ways. The first one was to create a new method to teach Chinese and attached more importance to foreign students communicating skills. The other one was to apply more practical and authentic topics for students to practice speaking Mandarin in Chinese Mandarin courses in China.

At the second half of the meeting, many teachers shared their experience in teaching Chinese as a second language. Miss Huai thought teachers should choose the right material to assist lecturing Chinese Mandarin courses in China. The material used in classed should be closely linked with daily life, and when referring about some old sayings or proverbs, teachers should also supplement some background information about Chinese culture and history.

Miss Chen showed her opinions on preparing topics with different degrees of difficulty to different students when having Chinese Mandarin courses in China. As for students in elementary level, their oral Chinese class should focus on imitating short sentences. For those foreign students who had Chinese background, teachers should pay attention to expending topics. For students of all levels, Chinese teachers should highlight the variety of contents, teaching methods and the application of multimedia learning tools when they gave lessons. Cultural difference between China and western countries could be a typical topic in Chinese classes. Routine practice and creation were necessary when teachers taught Mandarin Chinese. Rich facial expression and body language were a plus if teachers wanted to attract students’ attention.

Miss Mi also showed her thoughts on the basics of being a good Chinese teacher who could be qualified in teaching Chinese Mandarin courses in China. Having basic professional knowledge of teaching Chineselanguage was the prerequisites of a Mandarin Chinese teacher. Teachers should also prefect their own language ability. A good teacher was good at finding out students’ mistakes and helping students make them correct. Miss Zhuang added that teachers should provide more chances to practice Chinese and encourage students to express what they need in daily life. Teachers should also prepare more word for foreign students to learn, which would help students when they wanted to say something in Chinese.

Other experience was also shared in the meeting, such as teaching students the way of distinguishing “Xiang Xi & Ju Ti”, “Yin Bi & Yin Cang & Yin Man” and “Bang & Bang Zhu & Bang Mang”. The meeting aimed at transferring students’ Chinese language knowledge into real oral communicative skills. At the meeting, all of the teachers in Keats School were very active and shared whatever they knew about teaching Chinese. After the meeting, teachers rethought about the contents of the meeting and learnt from each other’s experience, which would definitely improve the teaching quality of Kunming Keats School.

The place is very cool. I am with a great group of people in my class, so coming to classes is very enjoyable. It is fun, we have a lot of discussions, games, activities. Our teachers are also very good, very supportive. Learning Chinese is intimidating at the start because you have so many questions. But I would advise coming to Keats because the atmosphere for learning is great. It is very relaxing. I would recommend the school.

Before I came to Keats School, I had no confidence in my Chinese proficiency. I did not have the confidence to speak Mandarin Chinese and chat with Chinese people. However, after 4 months of study at Keats, I become more and more confident in speaking Chinese now. Studying Chinese in China at Keats School has been the best decision I have ever made. There are many games in the class, and my teacher’s teaching methods are also very interesting. My experience at Keats School has changed my view of China and Chinese people.

The visa application was really straightforward, because Keats School helps us a lot with that. Keats has a big emphasis on conversational practice, so we learn a lot of vocabulary and daily life plans which is very convenient for us to go around town and speak with Chinese people which is the whole point of learning Chinese in China.

Intensive One-on-One Chinese Classes

I really enjoy this place because we have private Mandarin lessons. I took the 6-hour program, 4 hours in the morning, 2 in the afternoon. Even though it is quite a lot, the teaching is complimentary. This is very helpful because I could review what I did before and learn new things. My 2 teachers are fantastic. We live in the school, so it is convenient. It is interesting to me to meet people from all over the world.
