A Practical Lecture Given to University Students

As a prestigious Mandarin Chinese language school in China, Keats stands out from other schools through its excellent teaching quality and high rate of returning students. Last Friday, Keats president Joy and vice president Margie went to the Oxbridge College, Kunming University of Science and Technology because they were invited by the Director of the School of Foreign Languages to give a lecture to their students in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.

Many university students and post graduates of TCFL are so proud to be Keats teachers as Keats is a dream working place for many TCFL graduates. They are encouraged to do internship in their senior years after three years of classroom theoretical study in their universities. If they can pass Keats’ interview, they will received a more practical and rigorous training at Keats. After the systematic training at Keats, a qualified teacher is eligible go inside Keats’ classrooms to teach our students.

This time two teachers from Keats were glad to give them a practical lecture about teaching Chinese. Joy introduced Keats School’s history for them and then Margie showed current situation and tendency of Chinese teaching. The two teachers used many data and pictures to make the lecture more interesting. The audience listened carefully to the lecture. After the introduction, the audience knew much better about the official organizations like Hanban Office, Confucius Institute, and HSK exam.

In order to help the audience analyze their ability of Chinese knowledge and teaching ability, Joy prepared several quizzes for them. After doing those quizzes, the audience noticed that there was still a long way to go before they became an excellent teacher. In the end, Joy and Margie gave them many suggestions like how to be a good Chinese teacher, what reference books they need to read and what they can do after graduation.

The lecture ended in the storm of the student’s applause. Many students showed that the lecture was very useful and practical for them and they had a better understanding about TCFL. They appreciated two teachers’ effort and the wonderful lecture. They hope they could be one of Keats teachers in the future.

I think Kunming is a great city, the weather is really good. I really like Keats school and found it is very organized. The teachers here are very good. They have a coffee shop and new classrooms, a new lounge area here now, so you can chill out with your friends and practice your spoken Chinese with natives. If you’re considering coming to Keats to study, I would really recommend it. It’s the best place to learn Mandarin and I think it will be a great experience for you.

Intensive One-on-One Chinese Classes

My name is Sarah Fish. I am 81. I knew very little Chinese when I arrived. How was I going to survive 2 weeks of intensive Chinese course? I have to laugh when I think of that now. What a positive experience this has been! I really wish we could be here a little longer. The teachers are extremely encouraging, evaluating first how much someone knows, and then starting from there.

The visa application was really straightforward, because Keats School helps us a lot with that. Keats has a big emphasis on conversational practice, so we learn a lot of vocabulary and daily life plans which is very convenient for us to go around town and speak with Chinese people which is the whole point of learning Chinese in China.

I like the small group Chinese class because my classmates study hard and our teachers are very good. I like the teaching method of Keats because I like the activities at Keats. My first semester that I studied at another school, and the pressure there was pretty high, the classroom hour was long, and the homework was pretty tedious. Since I came to Keats, I found I have a lot more opportunities to speak in the classroom. My classmates all are fluent and love speaking and participating in the class. We have great classroom dynamic.

Kunming is a great place to learn Chinese in China because not many Chinese on the street speak English. Keats has been a great school for me and a lot of other foreigners who studied in China recommended it to me. I think they are all right. The study method here is really structured. They make learning Chinese really easy. There are also a lot of cultural and natural places to visit.
