What to wear in a funeral

Life is concluded with the funeral. In China, many specific rules and regulations relate to the clothes people wear for mourning. In Chinese villages today, mourning apparel is still common. If an old person died, his or her eldest son and daughter-in-law are supposed to be dressed in deep mourning, i.e. to wear gunny clothes, which have raw edges instead of binding. The eldest son also needs to wear straw ropes or white cloth strip around his waist, a gunny cap and mourning shoes, while the eldest daughter-in-law needs to comb her hair into a special style: hair is made into two circles bound by jade hairpin and white string. Currently, people wear black crepe on the arm as a sign of mourning, and women sometimes wear white flower or white crepe. Also, clothes for mourning are mainly dark and plain in color.
