Chinese Teaching Should be Understandable

When we say Chinese teaching should be understandable, we usually mean the language that teachers use should be popular, common and easy to understand for foreigners to study Chinese. It is decided by the language level of Chinese language learners. Teachers should avoid to using some complicated teaching language, thus making it professional grammar lesson. To choose the language that the foreigners who study Chinese can understand, teachers should use the technical terms as less as possible. It will shift learners’ attention about Chinese learning.

The best way to make Chinese teaching understandable is to make use of charts and forms to combine the actual context with the teaching aids to help students understand the knowledge points when they learn to speak Chinese. In the beginning stage, we can explain by use students’ mother tongues or intermediate languages properly if possible. When foreigners study Chinese, they may find the same meaning can be expressed by using different sentence patterns. In this condition, teachers can first use the simple language to explain the easiest pattern to learners. A proper example will be better than lots of words.
