Work on Silk Road World Heritage Application

Recently, the reporter reported that China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan will jointly apply to list the Silk Road into the World Heritage. However, the time of presenting the application materials is put off from 2012 to February 1st in 2013. Some foreigners who are interested in Chinese culture may know that as early as on December 27 in the last year, the representatives of China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan had consulted the heritage application of Silk Road in the conference held by UNESCO in Urumqi, Xinjiang.

On the conference, the representatives had reached a consensus on such issues like names and spatial scope of the corridor which will apply for the world heritage. Besides, the representatives had also signed the memorandum for declaring the heritage, putting forward clearly that the program name is “Silk Road: Starting Gallery and Road Network of Tianshan Mountain Gallery”.

At the same time, according to the new situation of the declaration and the requirements of the technique lines, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage had organized specialists to check the name list of the Silk Road that is composes of 48 heritage points. Finally, the list of totally 27 heritage spots of the Silk Road was formed and will be published to the public in this July. After analyzing the existing problems in the starting parts and the road network in Tianshang Mountain gallery, the work of the next stage was arranged. The news comes from Wang Weidong, the deputy director general of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Heritage Council, “Silk Road: Starting Gallery and Road Network of Tianshan Mountain Gallery” is the program of declaration of the world heritage in 2014. The three countries China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan should finish the applying materials before February of 2013.

In order to provide convenience to the declaration, all work on the heritage spots should be completed before June of 2013 and the international experts group will make on-the-spot investigation and evaluation around July or August of 2013.
