In the Castle Theater in Vienna, the opera Red Cliff which was produced by China‘s National Grand Theater was on stage and it proved to be a big success. Red Cliff was a big show which was directed by the China‘s National Grand Theater from the year 2008. The play not only grasped firmly the essence of the Beijing opera but also blended the modern appreciation of beauty to heighten the visual elements of beauty and setting on the stage. The play was creative as well as traditional to represent the features of Chinese opera. As one of the artistic forms, the opera was traditional and difficult for the foreigners to understand even they had learned Mandarin learning courses before since the opera was not performed in daily-used Chinese.

Chinese famous opera performance artists Yu Kuizhi, Li Shengsu, Li Hongtu and other performers gave a good show to the European audience. The opera presented the charm of the Chinese culture. The performance of the artists and actors and the charm it presented of history and culture deeply impressed the audience. Some foreigners even imitated the opera fans to sing the Beijing opera. When it came to a wonderful episode, the foreigners would cheer loudly and applaud to the actors.

In order to help the European audience to understand the Chinese Beijing opera and the plot of the play Red Cliff, an Austrian actor who knew well about Chinese culture was particularly invited as the host of the play, who gave audience a vivid, concrete and interesting description of the play.
This was the first time that the opera Red Cliff came to Vienna and its debut in European stage. The Vienna Castle Theater where the play was performed was one of the famous Austrian drama theaters. The Castle was founded in1741 and was regarded as the most traditional theater in German-speaking area. It was an unforgettable experience to enjoy the opera in such a traditional theater.
