Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries in 2011 Revealed

The result of 2011 National Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries hosted by Chinese Historical Relics Newspapers was revealed in Beijing. If the foreigners who are interested cultural heritages when they come to learn Chinese language in China, they may know the top ten on the list are Henan Zhenzhou Paleolithic Age site, Fujian cave site, Zhejiang prehistoric settlement site, Inner Mongolia prehistoric settlement site, Sichuan stone column site, Hubei Suizhou Zenghou tombs, Liaoning tombs site in Warring States period, Jiangsu Jiangdu cemetery, Shanxi Datong Yungang Grotto Buddhist Temple site and dock of Beijing-Hangzhou Canal and Nanwang water hub site.

The appraising and evaluation activity was launched in the end of the last November. After being declared by the excavating units, recommended by Chinese cultural relics newspaper and experts as well as examines and verified by State Administration of Cultural Heritage, 48 legal archaeological candidate projects which excavated in the field in China from January 1st to December 31st in 2011 were listed into the preliminary assessment.

In the preliminary assessment, it was voted by the members of the archaeological expert team of State Administration of Cultural Heritage, the executive members of Chinese Archaeological Association as well as 65 qualified archaeological excavation unites together. Some of the foreign students who learn Chinese online free may be told that the first 25 will be quailed to the next round of assessment in accordance with the result of the vote.

It is reported that the site in Fujian is an important breakthrough of prehistoric archaeology in the southeast coastal regions, which not only fills the blank the transitional period from Neolithic Age to Paleolithic Age in prehistoric period in Fujian and even the southeast of China, but also provides significant actual information and materials to research human being’s technology development and living models in the transitional period from Neolithic Age to Paleolithic Age. It is also important to research the cultural exchanges between both sides of the Taiwan Straits. The other sites also have great significance to research the history.

The point need to be pointed out us that some projects face the danger and threat of being endangered among the projects evaluated this time. For example, the students who come to learn to speak Chinese in China may be told that Sichuan Yibing stone column site belongs to the area submerged by Xianjiaba hydropower station which needs much protection.
