Most of the foreign students believe that it is fortunate to study Chinese in China and make the trip to the south Yangtze River. In the end of the Dong Han Dynasty, due to the large amount of emigrations from north to the south, the agriculture in south Yangtze River had developed the agriculture into a high level by the joint efforts of the northern and southern people.

Along the Yangtze River, majority of the wastelands had been opened up so that you could see the prosperity of southern Yangtze River, if you come to learn Chinese in China. Furthermore, the Wu state had the similar lead agency and the organization of the wastelands with Cao Wei. And so did the worker of the wastelands who were allowed to get rid of the tax by farm work throughout the year. In the meantime, a great deal of land resources in the south of Yangtze River, had been cultivated, recorded in the book named as Wu Du Fu. Before choosing to study Chinese in China, most foreign students have read several books about the Chinese culture, including this book.

At the same time, the development of the agriculture correspondingly promoted the handicraft industry in Wu state. Even though you do not study Mandarin in China, you also could hear that the southern Yangtze River is known as the handcraft industry, besides the beautiful scenery. The metal smelting industry in the south of Yangtze River strived to a further advance stage at that time. Ye Lin or Cheng which was the organization for metal smelting industry had been set up in all the states, the iron producers.

On the other hand, the traditional linen industry had accounted for an important position in the textile industry for Wu state. For the silk industry, it was better than before, with the creation of the “八蚕之棉” which was made by eight kinds of silk. After you get to study Chinese in China, you could hear the story about it. It has been considered as the classic in the history of textile industry in China.

Besides, in Wu state, many other sections had also been well-developed such as bronze mirrors, silk industry, salt-marketing and so on. The water and land traffic were more convenient in the early ages of Sun Wu who had moved the capital from Wu state (now in Su Zhou, Zhejiang province) to Jin Kou (now in Zhengjiang, Jiangsu province), changing the name Jian Ye instead of stone city.

Moreover, the kingdoms vigorously developed domestic commerce in the meantime. In 223 years ago, Sun Wu used the local production from southern Yangtze River to exchange for the horses with those two countries, Wei state and Shu state, for making up the lack of production in the south of Yangtze River. And the exchanges between the Wu state and the other states had been recorded in the book Fu Nan Yi Zhi Wu and Wu Shi Wai Guo Zhuang which were the earliest books to describe the view of Chinese on the broad market.
