Jin Zhi River and Yin Zhi River in Kunming

If you learn Mandarin Chinese in Kunming, you may know the famous Jin Zhi River which is originated from Pan Long River. The well known Jin Zhi River provides abundant water resource to the nearby farmlands day by day. There is also another river named Yin Zhi River coming from the tourist site Hei Long Tan in Kunming. Those two rivers are very famous in Kunming.

There are also legendary tales about those two rivers and the stories should be talked about in Mandarin learning courses. Long time ago, an ordinary god who was in lower class in heaven was punished because of some mistakes and sent to human world. He wished through had work in human world, he could got back to god’s world again.

If you know some Chinese culture from your Chinese classes when you study in China, you can easily find that the soul of a dead man need to find a mother so that he could be reborn again. The spirit of the god wanted to do the same thing too.

However, things not always go on as smoothly as the students from school to study Mandarin think. The god’s spirit could not find anyone, and he was a little disappointed. At that night, the spirit went pass a pig sty, and he found a female pig was sleeping in there. Even if the spirit did not want to be born as a pig, he had to make a decision before dawn.

Unfortunately, a rooster made a loud sound, and the spirit swallowed the female pig and took control over the pig’s body. He never give up on the thought of getting back to god’s world as mentioned in your classes when you study Chinese in Kunming, and the spirit always wanted to do something to make up for his mistakes.

One day night, the spirit in pig’s body went out and found there were floods everywhere around a river. The farmlands on both sides of the river were abandoned and no crops could grow on them. The spirit thought it was really a pity for leaving a large area of land unused and abandoned like that, and he decided to find a way and make the farmlands become fertile again. What his solution was the question that every student who comes to learn Chinese in China will ask.

The spirit in pig’s body did a very generous thing that every people would be grateful for, even those foreign learners in Chinese language school would think the spirit in pig’s body was so great. The spirit used pig’s body to arch out a path which could lead the water eastwards to Dian Chi Lake, and this path was started from Song Hua Dam. He also wanted to make another path staring from Hei Long Tan to make sure the water can be led westwards to Dian Chi Lake.

intensive Mandarin courses in China would show you a piece of good news that the first path was successfully made, but something happened when the spirit in pig’s body tried to get through the second one. When he arched out the path to Xia Ma Cun Village, a landlord found someone tried to build a river across his farmland. The landlord did not want this kind of things happen, so he figured out a way to stop it.

At night, the landlord went out of his house and hid himself near his farmland to find out who had been digging this river. To his surprise, he found a female pig which was many times bigger than an elephant in his farmland. As everybody from Mandarin language courses in China thought, the landlord would take action to deal with the pig.

The landlord followed the pig to her sty and killed the pig and the spirit in that pig. The spirit could not go back to heaven again, and the second river stayed unfinished. When you come to Chinese school to study in China, you may find the two famous rivers in Kunming. In order to show gratitude to the spirit, local people have named the first one as Jin Zhi River, and the second one as Yin Zhi River.
