Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, Tibet

Jokhang Temple is the most splendid building which was constructed in the Tibetan regime in ancient China. The temple is majestic and solemn. It is located in the center of the old town in Lhasa and is a Buddhist temple. The temple has a long history of 1350 years and is one of the national relic protection units. The temple is crowded with many prayers everyday. The Zang language of Jokhang Temple means the hall of chanting sutras. Jokhang in Zang language means Juekang, which means Sakyamuni. Thus, the Jokhang Temple also means the hall in which Sakyamuni statue is laid. The status of the statue is supreme.

Many people know that the Tibetans are pious believers in Buddhism. The ways of the worship to gods are impressive and unforgettable once the strangers see them. Songtsen Gampo, the creator of the ancient Tibetan regime, made a promise to Princess Bhrikuti that a Buddha-hall would be built at eh palce where the ring was dropped. Unexpectedly, the ring fell into the lake. Suddenly, the lake was sparkled with golden lights and a nine-storey white tower gradually appeared from the center of the sparkling lights. Thus, the temple was initiated to build with thousands of white goats. The Jokhang Temple is the most splendid building which still exists in Tibet by now. The temple is more than 25 thousand square meters after many times of rebuilding and developing.
