Visiting the Eastern Lake in Wuhan City

There are numerous lakes with attracting scenery in the whole China and the Eastern Lake is one of the most famous lakes in Wuhan city. It is named as the Eastern Lake because the location of the lake is in the east of Wuhan city. As early as in the year of 1982, it was approved by the State Council as the one of the first group of national tourist attractions. According to the introduction of those foreign students who ever visited there when they study in Chinese school in China, the whole scenic area covers 88 square kilometers, among which 73 square kilometers is the panning construction field, accounting for one fourth of the size of the city area.

In each year, the number of visitors received in this scenic area reaches two million, making it the largest tourist attraction in the city of Wuhan. It is enjoyable in all seasons to visit the Eastern Lake. It is famous for the orchid in spring, lotus in summer and sweet-scented osmanthus in autumn and plum blossom in winter. When it comes to March or April, the orchid and oriental cherry are spread everywhere. The lake surface is peace and clear, around which you can hear the beautiful songs of the birds.

July is a season with high temperature so that many citizens often come to the Eastern Lake to spend the summer because of the effect of the lake water and the lower temperature than that in the city center. You can go to the swimming pool to relieve the summer heat and also sitting under the dense trees. The autumn sky is clear and the air is crisp and the fragrance of the sweet-scented osmanthus floats from afar, making you intoxicated in the fragrance. When the old winter comes, the plum flower shows its beauty as it likes.

Therefore, most foreigners are attracted to visit the Eastern Lake especially in summer when they attend to summer program in China. After 50 years’ development and construction, the Eastern Lake Scenic Area has been developed into a tourist attraction with picturesque scenery and cultural relicts. In 1999, it was awarded as the National Sampling Tourist Attraction. Two years later, it was improved as a 4A tourist attraction by the National Tourism Administration. The tourists from home and abroad are warmly welcomed to visit the Eastern Lake and the experts in tourism and gardening are welcomed to instruct.
