The Dragon Lantern

The dragon lantern belongs to the category of festive lantern. It serves both as a visual treat and a dancing device. In both towns and villages in China, especially in the southern region, people perform dragon lantern dances as a traditional custom, from the Chinese New Year to the Lantern Festival. Ancient Chinese people have a strong preference of dragon; they thought the dragon control wind and rain. People perform dragon dance in order to pray for good luck, seasonable weather and a bounteous harvest. The skills and materials of making dragon lantern change a lot, and it becomes more and more exquisite. The traditional acts of the dragon lantern dance are divided by the number of the dragons: one dragon or two dragons snapping at a pearl.
