Lihuawu (Pear Blossom Park) is located in Jiulong Post which is about three kilometers away from the southwestern Baoshan city. If you attend to one-on-one Chinese learning programs in the city of Kunming, teachers would tell you that it was constructed by Wang Hongzuo, a minister in Baoshan in the period of Qing Dynasty. As one Buddhist sacred land, this garden has a history of almost 300 years. It was named because the pear flowers as white as the cloud are blooming when it comes to the spring.
There is a legend about the construction of Pear Blossom Park. It was said that Wang Hongzuo went back to his see his relatives after being wealthy. But he suffered incident in Dongting Lake but saved by the Goddess of Mercy and enlightened in Jiulong Mountain. Later, he had better chance in the imperial court and acted as high official. In order to show the gratitude to the Goddess of Mercy, he built this garden and the statues of the Goddess for the public to worship.
There is a temple with the same name in this garden as well as some other buildings such as Ciyu Pavilion, Buddhist Sutra Building, Yuezui Pavilion, Wayun Pavilion, Yangyun Pond, Yuhua Kiosk and Weituo Hall. When the foreign students who study Mandarin Chinese step into the garden, they will feel that different buildings are orderly constructed with elegant environment. Since there are many flowers and plants are planted in the temple, the scenery in spring is really fantastic, especially the purely white pear flowers in every February or March.
Of course, many couplets are hanging on the columns of the buildings in the park, describing the beautiful scenery and also some philosophy. At present, some scenes that the couplets describe are no longer existed. But it will give the tourists more imagination. In addition, the vegetarian feast in the temple is also delicious and reputable, attracting many visitors to enjoy every year. When it comes to February 29th, June 19th and September 19th, many people come to the temple to sacrifice the Goddess.
It is recorded that Wang Hongzuo is the most famous one because he acted the highest official position in imperial court in Baoshan area. Some students who study Mandarin online may know the reason that the local people love this garden so much and the temple was reconstructed for several times.
