Famous Caves in Honghe in Yunnan Province

In the south of Baoxiu Town which is about ten kilometers far away in the west of Shiping County in Honghe, Xiushan Mountain is located with densely covered forest and many tourist attractions. Along the narrow mountain paths, you can see many ancient cypress threes and pine trees. Some of the students who study in Mandarin learning courses in Yunnan may be told that Dai people even constructed Buddhist temples there as early as in Tang Dynasty.

When it came to Ming Dynasty, Juezhen Temple was constructed and had been reconstructed in Qing period. The exiting temple now is composed of monastery gate, the Majestic Hall and Lingyun Pavilion. When visitors step into the hall, they can see the statues of Sakyamuni and Fugen and Monju. The delicate handicraft makes them vividly and lively even now. the architecture behind the hall is Lingyun Pavillion, which is a three-storied building with 20 meters in height.

On the eaves of the third floor, the horizontal boards with inscriptions of three characters Ling Yun Ge with grass writing style is hanging. Whne you attend to intensive Mandarin course in China to study, teachers may tell you that those three vigorous characters were written by the famous calligrapher Chen Rongchang in Yunnan in the late Qing Dynasty. When stepping up to the top story of the pavilion, the panoramic view of Baoxiu Town is seen. As one of the famous scenes in southern Yunnan, it was claimed as the protection site in 1983.

Lotus Cave Grotto is one of the famous caves worthy of visiting. It is situated on Lingbao Mountain with the altitude of 2100 meters that about 70 kilometers away from the county seat. The back entrance of the cave is about three meters high, four meters wide and 15 meters deep, in which eight statues are graved. In the bottom of the cave, there is a statue of Tathagata with the height of 2.3 meters. Most of the caves were the works in the caves were made in Ming and Qing periods.

Another cave that the foreign students who study Mandarin online may be interested is Qianyang Ancient Cave which is on Qianyang Mountain in the north of Yilong Town. Many inscriptions can be seen on the precipitous cliffs. The entrance is facing the south with the width of six meters and height of eight meters.
