Can I choose multiple locations and combine them? Would I be able to vary the cities every two weeks? For example, 2 weeks Kunming, 2 weeks Dali, 2 weeks Lijiang, etc.?
Yes, definitely. Offering these locations for studying Chinese is to encourage students to combine different places so that students can have an immersion experience in the Chinese language and culture. Feel free to combine any of the places and adjust the course duration for each place.
Suggestions:
- If your goal is to improve your Mandarin Chinese as soon as possible, and you hope the program to be as intensive and immersive as possible. In that case, you can choose the Kunming campus and the Chengdu campus because they offer more facilities and activities. This offers great convenience for life and opportunities for studying. You can travel to Dali, Lijiang, Xishuangbanna, Tengchong, Puzhehei, etc. or other cities, on weekends.
- If you aim to improve your Chinese while exploring the stunning scenery and diverse minority cultures in Yunnan, feel free to combine different locations and set yourself in vacation mode.
Anyway, you are welcome to design a course that fits your schedule and learning goals.
I want to study at different locations, is the transportation fee between different locations included in the tuition?
Transportation between different locations is not included in the tuition fee. Since the Chinese high-speed train is very developed, it is easy to get from one place to another. We offer free pick-ups and drop-offs from train stations/airports at all of our locations. For example, after you finish your program in Kunming and would like to start your program in Dali, we will take you to the airport or train station in Kunming. After you arrive at the airport or train station in Dali, we will pick you up there and take you to the school. Below are sample routes and their costs:
Kunming → Dali: High-speed train, 2.5 hours, RMB 150 one way
Kunming → Chengdu: High-speed train, 7 hours, RMB 270 one way
Kunming → Shanghai: High-speed train, 9.5 hours, RMB 980 one way
Kunming → Lijiang: High-speed train, 3.5 hours, RMB 230 one way
Kunming → Puzhehei: High-speed train, 1 hour, RMB 75 one way
Kunming → Jianshui: High-speed train, 2.5 hours, RMB 60 one way
Kunming → Xishuangbanna: High-speed train, 3.5 hours, RMB 300 one way
Kunming → Tengchong: Flight, 1.5 hours, RMB 400 one way
Kunming → Yuanyang: High-speed train, 3 hours, RMB 80 one way
Kunming → Jingmai Tea Mountain: Flight, 1 hour, RMB 750 one way, or high-speed train, 3 hours, RMB 160 one way
You can’t book the train ticket at a very early time. You can book the train ticket around 2 weeks before the trip. If you decide to take the train, we will be happy to help you book the train tickets.
What's the check-in date and check-out date?
Your accommodation at Keats starts on Sunday. You can arrive on a Sunday and start your lessons on Monday. The check-out date is Saturday after you finish your lessons on Friday. ALL THESE LOCATIONS LOOK SO ATTRACTIVE. I WANT TO STUDY AT ALL OF THEM. BUT WHEN I REGISTER, I DON'T KNOW WHICH ORDER OF THE LOCATIONS FOR TAKING THE PROGRAMS IS THE BEST TO SAVE TIME ON TRANSPORTATION.
Yes, many students study at multiple locations, and I can understand your concern.
Here is a great route:
Beijing → Chengde (departure from Beijing) → Shanghai/Xi’an → Chengdu → Qianhu Miao Village →Kunming → Lijiang → Dali → Tengchong → Xishuangbanna → Jingmai Tea Mountain → Kunming → Jianshui → Yuanyang → Puzhehei → Kunming
If you plan to study at some locations but are not sure which to start with, please feel free to contact us for suggestions.
I see that I can take the one-on-one lessons for 4 hours a day or 6 hours a day. Which do you recommend?
There are two choices for one-on-one Chinese language classes: 4 hours per day (20 hours per week) and 6 hours per day (30 hours per week). You can choose the level of intensity according to your needs.
If your time to study in China is very limited and you want to make the most out of your time at Keats, 6 hours per day is recommended. You will have 2 to 3 teachers if you study for 6 hours a day.
If you are on vacation and want to have a relaxed schedule while making solid progress, 4 hours per day is recommended. You will have 1 to 2 teachers if you study for 4 hours a day.
Will I be able to meet other students if I take the one-on-one lessons?
If you take the one-on-one lessons in Kunming and Chengdu, you will meet other students during mealtime, you will have fun together by participating in all Keats activities, and you will hang out together after class if you make some new friends here. One-on-one means you will have the Chinese class in a 1-to-1 setting (one teacher teaches only one student in the class), but you will have the chance to explore many cool things with other students after class.
What are the school holidays? Can I come during the Golden Week?
Keats opens all year round except for a 1-week break during the Spring Festival, which is usually in February.
There is a 1-week break during the Spring Festival 05/02/2027-13/02/2027. Accommodation will be provided for free for this week at the Kunming campus and the Chengdu campus. Classes and meals will not be provided during this week.
You can also travel to other places in China during this week.
We are open during other holidays such as Christmas, National Day, Labor Day, New Year, etc.
How do you evaluate my entrance level?
You will meet your teacher after you arrive, before you officially start the lessons, to discuss your learning goals and expectations. This offers your teacher an opportunity to assess your current Chinese language level. Your teacher will then prepare the lessons according to your level of Chinese and learning needs.
Are there cultural activities or social events organized for students?
Yes, you can check out the events planned on this page:
As an older student, I am concerned that the current program may be too intensive for me. Could you suggest some adjustments to make it more manageable?
Yes, absolutely! You can request more outdoor classes in place of traditional classroom instruction. You will learn Chinese in real-world situations, such as reading signs, navigating the subway, asking for directions, and practicing your negotiation skills at local stores with your teacher.
Please note that while your tuition covers all teaching hours, outdoor sessions require you to cover the teacher’s transportation and any applicable entrance fees. There is no additional tuition cost for choosing outdoor classes over classroom learning.
We are a couple interested in taking one-on-one or one-on-two lessons at Keats. Do you have dorm rooms for couples? What would be the prices?
Yes, we offer double rooms for couples and families. Since a double room is twice the size of a single room, the price is the same as booking two single rooms.
The tuition fee will be lower if you take one-on-two Chinese lessons. Please send us an email to check the rate depending on the location.
As a Keats School's alum, I’m planning to stop by with my family and friends during my next visit. Is it okay for me to show them around?
Yes, welcome back to Keats!
We have an alumni program that offers your family and friends a complimentary meal at Keats and a trip to a famous local landmark. This program is completely free of charge. Please email us with your travel dates and the number of guests so we can make the necessary arrangements for you.
