Sichuan Intangible Cultural Heritages Exhibition Held in Hong Kong

For the purpose of showcasing the rich and various intangible cultural heritages resources in the outstanding Chinese civilization, the Sichuan Intangible Cultural Heritages Exhibition would be held in Hong Kong from June 9th to 21st. It is jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Home Affairs Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and undertaken by the Cultural Department of Sichuan Province and Hong Kong cultural affairs department. Hong Kong United Arts Entertainment Limited was also involved to organize this exhibition.

Many relevant important leaders attended to the opening ceremony, including the deputy minister of the Ministry of Culture Yang Zhijin, the director general of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Home Affairs Bureau Zeng Decheng, the deputy minister of the Central Government to the Liaison Office Liu Hanqi as well as the head of the cultural department of Sichuan Province. This activity is divided into three parts, Sichuan intangible cultural heritages joint performance, Sichuan intangible cultural skills showing and the lectures of intangible cultural heritages.

The various activities in this exhibition introduced the historical development and the protection work of the intangible cultural heritages in Sichuan province which with rich cultural resources in the west of China after the UNESCO put the convention of protecting the intangible cultural heritages into effect in April of 2006. The holding of this exhibition provides good opportunity for more people to know the charm of the in tangible cultural heritages in Sichuan, including those foreigners who come to learn Mandarin in China. Of course, since it is held in Hong Kong, it can be a pre-greeting to the 15th anniversary of the homecoming of Hong Kong.

A variety of performing programs are composed of the most representative intangible cultural heritages traditional music, traditional dance and traditional drama in Sichuan Province. The performance was held in the Music Hall of the Hong Kong Assembly Hall from June 9th to 10th. The performers are mostly the inheritors of the intangible cultural heritages, presenting the performances with Sichuan characteristics and ethnic features.

Just as some of the students who have watched this performance when they are learning Mandarin Chinese in China know, this activity shows the rich intangible cultural heritages in Sichuan from various aspects on the basis of that in the last year, providing a good chance for Hong Kong citizens to know the outstanding traditional culture of the mother land. In addition, it is helpful to build a series cultural cooperation programs, promoting the inheritance of the Chinese culture.
