Illustrating the Ze Ju in Chinese Culture

Ze Ju is an important part in Chinese culture or even to the world. It has attracted many experts’ attention on it. The doctor Lai Chuan Chang Jiu who is a cultural anthropologist in Japan has written a famous book named The Family Tree : the Han Peoples’ Family Tree in the south of China•Feng Shui •Yi Ju. Large numbers of the examples about Ze Ju and Dian Xue have been recorded in this book. What’s more, this book also includes some vivid information such as the sketch loading from the family tree and the maps drawn by the writer himself.

And now we will take an example from this book to elaborate the family tree so that the readers can understand clearly and have more propounding understand to the Chinese culture of Ze Ju.There was a family which family name was Deng. This family lived in Yuan Lang in the west of Xi Jie in Hong Kong. And Yuan Lang which was called as Jin Tian Deng Shi and it was one of the villages in the eleven villages. According to the record from the family tree, Deng Shi’ ancestral home was in Ji Shui in Jiang Xi province. They moved to Guang Dong province in Northern Song Dynasty. There are fifteen generations were recorded in the family tree. What’s more, the first generation from the fifteen was honored as Guang Dong Shi Zu. However, in fact, the remains of the first generation to the third generation were brought from Jie Shui to Hong Kong by the forth generation Fu Xie Gong. Later, they settled down in Hong Kong. Therefore, the forth generation and the first generation mean a lot to the history of Jian Tian Deng Shi.

Jin Tian was located by the Fu Gong according to the rules of Ze Ju. What’s more, it is inevitable the treasure place where can bring the prosperity to the Deng family. According to the explanation from the family tree, the main Long Mai of this treasure place originated from the Wu Tong Mountain which is in the northeast of the Shen Zheng city. And the standard height of Wu Tong Mountain is 975 meters. The Long Mai of the Wu Tong Mountain can be divided into three main stems. They are the Zheng Gan, north Gan and south Gan. Among the three mountains, the Zheng Gan and the north Gan run toward the Dong Wan and Hui Zhou separately.

On the other hand, the south Gan runs trough the Xiao Wu Tong, Li Bi Zi and Ti Dao Ren and extends to Guan Yin Mountain, Da Mao Mountain which is in the middle hilly area of Xin Jie. What’s more, the Da Mao Mountain (the highest peak in Xin Jie and in the standard height of 957meters) has been located in a vital place, seeing from the Ze Ju culture. If the Wu Tong Mountain has been regarded as the Tai Zu or the Long Zu, the Da Mao Mountain can be seen as the Shao Zu correspondingly. In another word, the Da Mao Mountain can be considered as the main Long Mai of the Deng family about Feng Shui in Chinese culture.

The Long Mai runs through the Da Mao Mountain and goes down along the slope of the Mountain. The Long Mai dives into the underground at first. Thus an everglade has come into being in the west of the Ping Mountain. It is called as Tian Chi. And then the Long Mai goes up along another small mountain which is usually called as Ya Ji Mountain. The river runs along with the Mountain. The river flows toward the northwest. Seeing from the geomorphologic map, Jin Tian is the outlet of mountain Long and the river Long. It is exactly a basin surrounded by the mountains and rivers. What’s more, the Deng family has developed prosperously depending on this fertile land since Northern Song Dynasty so that the business district in Yuan Lang had been controlled by the Deng family.
