As one of the most famous brands, Sha Guo Ju was originally built in Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty. It is said that it was founded by the night watchman in the court. Some of the foreigners who learn Chinese in China may know that the former site of Sha Guo Ju was around the Ding Wang Mansion of Gangwa city.

At that time, the Qing imperial court and some mansions had the system of sacrificing the ancestors with the high quality pigs without being cut into pieces. After the sacrifice ceremony, the pork would be awarded to the night watchmen. And those watchmen usually used the food to get money after exchanging with the shops outside the court.

Later, the night watchmen got a good idea of cooperating with the chefs in the imperial palace and established a food shop outside the Ding Wang Mansion. The shop mainly operated boil meat in Sha Guo (marmite) and named it as Fu Shun Ju, which some students who study abroad in China may be familiar with. However, the public were accustomed to call it Sha Guo Ju, and then it became famous as times goes by.

At the very beginning that Sha Guo Ju just opened for business, there were only few officials came to taste the foods. But later, the people went there was increasing and the business became prosperous so that the meat of one pick was sold out when it came to the noon. It was said that the restaurant closed the door as soon as the pork was sold out. Then, the people who wanted to enjoy it had to wait to the next day.

In Jiaqing period, there was a popular saying that means the people in Gangwa city went for eating meat at the time of the sunrise. We can see that the restaurant Sha Guo Ju was really popular at that time. The foreigners in China should there to enjoy food, during which they can learn some Chinese culture. In the past, the pots were really large but now they become the pots with small mouth. The most famous dish in Sha Guo Ju today is inherited and there are some more and the restaurant is open all day.
