Zixi Mountain Forest Park is situated in the southwest of Chuxing city, about 20 kilometers away from the city center. Since it is located beside the number 320 national highway, the transportation is really convenient. Therefore, many students visit there when they learn Mandarin in the city of Kunming. As the largest natural park in Yunnan province, it has the total area of 16 thousand hectares, with the forest coverage rate of 96%. The main peak is as high as 25oo meters above sea level and the whole mountain area is densely covered by forest with various plants species. 

Centering on Wan Song Ridge, Zixi Mountain radiates from the center to four directions. There are many ancient trees in this area such as the ancient rattans of hundreds of years and gingko trees as well as the camellia trees with the history of more than 650 years. In total, there are 1500 species of plants, 136 species of birds and 60 kinds of animals. The rare and precious plants are mainly cephalotaxus fortune and tea rose while the rare animals are green peacock, brown-necked hornbill and silver pheasant.

As a fascinating plant Kingdom that hundreds of species of animals and birds are gathering, Zixishan Mountain is rich in camellia, which is favored by most students who study Chinese in Kunming city. According to the research of contemporary botanists, there was planted camellia at least 1000 years ago. It is said the existing plant of camellia can come out flowers of two colors, the red first and then the white, making it a top wonder in camellia. It is regarded as the earliest artificially planted camellia in domestic area.

In addition, the camellia in Zixi Mountain is not only famous for the earliest age of tree, but also the various species and flower colors, ranking the first in the central Yunnan. There is a saying goes in the folk that the most famous camellia in China is in Yunnan while the most famous in Yunnan is in Zixi Mountain. In the past, Xishan Mountain was a famous sacred place of Buddhism and many eminent monks ever cultivated themselves according to the doctrines in this place.

In the history, Zixi Mountain ever known for 66 forests, 77 temples and 88 halls but then many were destroyed. In order to fully develop the tourism resources in Zilin Mountain, Ziding Temple and many other temples were constructed.
