Zhi Zhou Pavilion is located in Chengjiang County of Yuxi city. Facing to the south, the pavilion is a three-story building with steeple top. It is so attractive that many foreign students are attracted to there when they study in Mandarin learning courses in Kunming city. Standing in the flat land, the pavilion covers an area of 320 square meters and as high as 16 meters.
As early as in the year of 1943, the county magistrate Liu Chenggong at that time felt satisfied with this place and spent two years’ time in constructing a three-storied pavilion on the former site of Wan Shou Palace. During the process of visiting this pavilion, the students may be told that the period of finishing this pavilion was the wining of the Anti-Japanese War.
The county government called on the villagers around to gather together to hold the inauguration ceremony for the building. If you have come to study Mandarin in Yunnan for a long time, you may know the governor of Yunnan Long Yun. And he named this pavilion as Zhi Zhou Pavilion. After the construction of the pavilion, this place soon became a famous scenic area.
After the foundation of new China, the local government constantly expanded, supplemented, repaired and enriched this place centering on Zhi Zhou Pavilion, making it the largest park in Chengjiang. When it comes to weekends and festivals, many foreigners are often seen in this place. Of course, some aged people often dance in the square in the morning.
Comparing with the second and the third floors, the first floor is extended for six meters. Besides, there are eight angles in the first floor while four in the second and third floors. In this pavilion, the students can see the common structure named Dou Gong. It is a system of brackets inserted between the top of a column and a crossbeam, which often seen in Chinese style architecture.
According to the introduction of the foreign Chinese learners who ever been there, the most obvious characteristic of Zhi Zhou Pavilion is the totally wooden structure. At present, after covering the pavilion with glazed tiles, the top of the pavilion is shining with golden light under the sunshine. Of course, the elegant decorations on the wood are worthwhile to appreciate.
