As a provincial protected area, Weiyuan River Natural Reserve is located at the west side of the lower reaches of Weiyuan River in Jinggu County. Pinus khasys is the main forest vegetarian of Weiyuan River Natural Reserve, covering an area of 6043.9 hectares, occupying a forest area of 88.6%. As a matter of fact, pinus khasys is the geographical variety of khasya pine spread in the North Burma and the North Vietnam. It is endemic to Yunnan and only spread in Yunnan, especially in the Simao area in the south of Yunnan province, with widely distribute and dense cover.
The natural reserve is the distributing center of pinus khasys which is densely covered. Under the forests, the herbaceous plants are also well-developed. The ordinary plants are mainly arundinella hirta, themeda japonica, pogonatherum paniceum and Eupatorium adenophorum spreng.
