The Tyranny of King Jie Caused the Downfall of Xia Dynasty

After Jie assumed the throne, the rule of Xia Dynasty had been between the beetle and the block. Complaints were heard everywhere in the territory of Xia Dynasty. Facing to this situation, Xiajie didn’t arouse his all efforts to make the country prosperous and devote more to his people. On the contrary, he wasted the human resources and property on building palace. In addition to this, Xiajie started many wars to the surrounding tribes frequently.

When he was crusading against the Tribe of Shiyou, he got a beautiful girl named Meixi from Shiyou. Xiajie doted on Meixi extremely and made his life more licentious. Students of learning Mandarin in China did some research and found that in order to enhance the control to each tribe, Xiajie called on the leaders of tribes to meet in Reng. The Tribe of Youxun who lived in Shandong area rebelled. Therefore Xiajie started the war to crusading against Youxun.

This movement intensified the dissatisfaction and rebellion of every tribe. The tyranny of Xiajie made people apart from the control of him. They all cursed him that he would die with his dynasty in the future. At this time, his ruling couldn’t be maintained any more.

Meanwhile, the nation of Shang to the east of Xia Dynasty had risen. According to the materials found by students of learning Chinese in China, Shang was an ancient nation and became prosperous through the long-term development under the guidance of Leader Tang of Shang. It even prepared actively for wiping out Xia Dynasty. The thriving of Shang had great influence on the surrounding small states. Some tribes and states who were not satisfied with the ruling of Xia Dynasty all collected around Shang, which made Shang become a leader against Xia Dynasty in the east. Even some officials in Xia Dynasty who hated Xiajie went to Shang for shelter. The loyal official named Guan Longfeng was killed by Xiajie for remonstration, which caused great dissatisfaction in the ruling class of Xia Dynasty. The professor also told some other stories about the tyranny of Jie to the students so that even these people who are studying Chinese in China hated Jie very much.

In this situation, Shangtang raised forces against Xia Dynasty. Xiajie was surrounded by Shang army and died in Nanchao. Xia Dynasty was announced downfall in about 17th century BC.
