The tips of teaching in mandarin language school

I believe every teacher has own secret tips to make the class atmosphere easy in Mandarin language school. I’d be glad to share these stories and games with you. And all of these are test by the practice and favorite ways to learn for students.

Tips A games: how to get “十”(shí)

Teaching object: zero level beginners in Mandarin language school

Details: students abroad often learn to count at the beginning of learning Chinese. They can not do this game until they have master the number from “一”(yī) to “十”(shí). This game is set for pairs: one teacher to one student or a student to a student. Two people count from “一”(yī) alternately. However, one can count two numbers only. Who count “十”(shí) is the winner.

Methods and skills: as long as you guarantee to count “一”(yī), “四”(sì), “七”(qī), you must count “十” (shí)at last. After practicing several times, the students may find the key to the method. After that, the rules of the game changing into: correct the pronunciation of the words, if the accent with wrong or inaccurate pronunciation. If the student has the chance to win, he has to surrender to his or her opponent.

Teaching effect: it is best to play this game in the first class or second class. Firstly, the students may use their head and concentrate on themselves in class in Mandarin language school. They can study in a competitive environment. Secondly, the students may be familiar with each other rapidly in the game. It is convenient to establish good learning environment. Finally, the teacher can make the students spend time on important aspects of pronunciation initiatively.

Tips B Jokes: 吃饭睡觉打豆豆(chī fàn shuì jiào dǎ dòu dòu)

Teaching object: zero level beginners or primary level beginners in Mandarin language school

Details: After we have learnt the knowledge about “做什么”(zuò shén me), “动词”(dònɡ cí), we may use this joke to strengthen what we have learnt before.
The reporter asks one panda: “你每天做什么?(nǐ měi tiān zuò shén me)” The panda says: “吃饭睡觉打豆豆。(chī fàn shuì jiào dǎ dòu dòu)” Then, the reporter asks the other panda: “你每天做什么?(nǐ měi tiān zuò shén me)” The second panda says : “吃饭睡觉打豆豆。(chī fàn shuì jiào dǎ dòu dòu)” And the reporter has asked 99 pandas. However all of these pandas have responded with the same answers. At last, the reporter asks the last panda : “你每天做什么?(nǐ měi tiān zuò shén me)” The last panda answers:“吃饭睡觉。( shuì jiào dǎ dòu dòu)” The reporter is curious about its answer and asks : “为什么你不打豆豆?(wèi shén me nǐ bù dǎ dòu dòu)” The last panda is very unhappy about it and says: “我就是豆豆。(wǒ jiù shì dòu dòu)”

Methods and skills: The teacher can make a pause and ask one student to play the role of the last panda and answer the reporter’s question, when the story goes to the part of the last panda. The student may not get the right answer. And then the teacher can tell the end of story after that. If there has student who does not laugh, the teacher can make a student who has understand the joke to repeat it once more.
