Stone Forest in Yunnan

Legend has it that there once was an old God who had magic whips that could move strange rocks away and ordered them to do things for him. People who lived in Stone forest wanted to have those stones moved, so they asked the old God for help. Will the God help those people is the part every student who learns Chinese language in China wants to dig into.

The old man did not care to help them, but one of his daughters, Qi, who was a kind and virtuous girl, wanted to help after knowing this problem. How did Qi help them? One day, the old God took all his daughters out to visit someone. Qi stayed at home. When she was alone, she immediately opened the magic box of the old God and took out the whips that could move stones. She gave every local people a whip.

What could they do with those whips? You can find your answer through learning Chinese language in China. The plan was that the stones would be removed to Yi Liang, and then they would be flushed by the running water of the Nan Pan River. It was already midnight when people started whipping stones. Some were pretty tired and did not want to go too fast. Therefore, the team got quite loose when they were going, taking up a large area. Just like a herd of sheep without a leader, those people finally separated into parts of different sizes. And then, the sun was setting up, and the stones stopped moving. Then those people knew that the magic whips could not function in the daytime. So everyone waited for the night to come.

However, the old God arrived home that night. If you read some old tales when you learn Chinese language in China, you will find bad thing often happen when you thought life was so smooth. He noticed that instead of the original stone forest there was a wide plain. He was also angry with the missing whip. Consequently, he sent his other daughters to collects magic whips and those stones could never be removed to Nan Pan River in Yi Liang. Since then, those stones have stayed in Lu Nan, and the Stone Forest you see when you travel to Lu Nan after learning Chinese language in China gradually comes into being. 

According to the distribution of the tourist spots in the zone, there are mostly three attraction sites, namely, Large Stone forest, Small Stone Forest and Outside Stone Forest, among which the Large Stone Forest is the major site. Near the entrance of Lu Nan Stone Forest there is a Stone Forest Lake, where there are a few rock pillars appearing to be like youthful maids getting out of shower, called “Chu shui guan yin”. Large Stone Forest area is in the south of the Stone Forest Lake. The stones in the Large Stone Forest are steep and crowded, presenting a uniquely wonderful view.
