Several Methods of Practicing Characters Strokes

For high efficiency in Chinese language teaching, teachers should apply some interesting methods to increase students‘ learning interest and strengthening the memory. For the learning of Chinese characters, the strokes are very important and some games can be applied to help them remember the strokes of characters. For example, teachers can show the character 大 to the students and three students will be asked to the platform. When the teachers say one, students need to write the first stroke of the character 大on the blackboard and then carry on.

If the strokes that the three students write are the same and correct, they need to continue to write more characters. If there are some differences among the strokes the students write, the other students would see and discuss. It is the responsible of the other students to point out and explain which one write correctly and which one does not. In this way, students who study Mandarin Chinese will have a better impression about the strokes of Chinese characters. Of course, it is possible that the strokes written by the whole three students are all incorrect.

In the aspect of practicing the strokes in Chinese characters, another method is to speak out the strokes of the given characters. First of all, the whole class should be divided into two groups and the teachers provide a Chinese character which has been written in the paper. Then, the students are supposed to imitate to write this character and then count the number of the strokes. After finishing counting, they need to show the number of the strokes with gesture. The students who write wrongly will stand up to see which group has the least students write character incorrectly.

What’s more, for the purpose of training the flexibility and reflection, a game of asking number is a good choice to be applied in Chinese learning programs. First of all, teachers ask the students stand into a circle and the teacher stands in the center. You can assume the teacher is No.1 and each student has a number. When the game begin, teacher asks the number of certain one student like 我是1号,你是几号. The student being asked should tell the number of him intermediately and then ask the number of another students like 我是3号,你是几号. The students should answer rapidly and exactly and clearly.
