In South Qi period, Tao secluded to Maoshan to inherit Shangqing scripture and composed some early doctrines. Students who come to study Mandarin in China should know the consistent development and promotion made by Tao and his disciples made Maoshan the center of Shangqing School of Daoism. Then, they changed the name as Maoshan School.
