Learn Chinese in Wuhan

There are many students who study in China for many years come to Kunming. And they choose stay in Kunming. Because they said Kunming is the best city for living and study. There are so many wonderful thing make them stay. One of the reasons is the weather. Yes, Kunming`s weather is much better than 90% cities in China. An American student who learns Chinese in Wuhan came to Kunming for 3 weeks Chinese study. After the first week Chinese study in Kunming, he decide to move to Kunming. He said Wuhan is one of the cities you can go to visit in China however it is not a good idea for you to stay longer.

“Han” is the short name of Wuhan City. And if you study in China, it is good for you to remember the abbreviation names of important cities. Wuhan City covers an area of 8,494 square meters and it is the capital city of Hubei Province, China. By the year 2010, there are 9.78 million people living in Wuhan. It is the largest city in central China and, it is an extraordinary combined conglomeration structured city in the middle and lower reaches. Wuhan is cut into three sections, Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang by the Hanshui River, which is the longest tributary of Yangtze River, the world’s third longest river. Libai, a famous poet lived in Tang dynasty, once came here and wrote his famous lines, “In the Yellow Crane Tower the jade flute is being played while in the River City of Wuhan plum blossoms are dropping in May”. Wuhan thereby has been called Jiangcheng, which means river city. On March 8, 2010, permission to set up Wuhan as the center of Central China was officially given by the State Council of People’s Republic of China.

Wuhan is one of the hottest cities in China ( Chongqing, Wuhan, Nanjing). The temperature of Wuhan in July is more than 35℃. If you want to travel there, please do not choose July.

During the end of Qing Dynasty, the Republic China and the beginning of People’s Republic of China, Wuhan had kept very prosperous and had at one time become the largest city in Mainland China, ranking world’s top cities. Because it locates by the side of Yangtze River and because it is a railway traffic junction and is highly industrialized, it is very much like Chicago located by the side of Great Lake in North America. Because of this, it gained a name called “Eastern Chicago”. Wuhan was the birthplace of the Republic China, and the famous movement, Wuchang Uprising, took place here.

Administrative division of Wuhan City is very much characterized with historic features. It can be said that it is a historic miniature which perfectly preserves history from Ming Dynasty to Xinhai Revolution and to the establishment of People’s Republic of China. Wuhan City can be regarded as a combination of two cities and a county, Hankou City, Wuchang City and Hanyang County. Therefore, you need to know there is a saying,” Wuhan three counties”. Among these three cities, Hankou City and Wuchang City had each developed to be quite large cities in late Ming Dynasty. In 1927 to 1949, there three regions were corresponding to Special Hankou City, Wuchang City (past capital city of Hubei Province), and Hanyang County. In 1927, the Republic China removed its capital to Wuhan and combined Hankou, Wuchang and Hanyang together to Jingzhao rejoin called Wuhan. Therefore, Wuhan can be regarded as the first city directly under central government.

Wuhan is typical landscape garden city, for there are over hundred hills and about two hundred lakes spreading in the three towns. About one fourth of the whole city is covered with water. Among these lakes, Dohu lake covers an area of 33 square meters, which is now the largest lake in the city. The most notable attractions are Huanghelou Tower, the largest lake in city, Guiyuan Temple, the Yangtze River Grand Bridge, Red Tower, and Hundred-Year Old Street, Hanlu etc.
