At present, National Art Museum of China is holding “Kong Baoji Oil Painting Exhibition”. Kong is famous for creating the Xuan paper oil painting and has donated 20 paintings of his own to the National Art Museum. The foreigners who study in Chinese classes in China should know Kong Baiji is a Chinese-American artist who has lived abroad for more than 20 years. Born in 1932, Kong learned painting when he was twelve years old and taught in art school of Shanghai Theater Academy when he was only 24 years old.
During the 30 years’ teaching process, he acted as the director of art school of Shanghai Theater Academy for a long time. He moved to the United States in the year of 1986. In the 60s and 70s of the last century, He began to use oil painting pastels to draw figure painting with oriental characteristics on the paperboards. Besides, he went to Duanhuang Mogao Grottoes in the west to make his fundamental turning point of his art.
In order to express the special effect of the grottos which have faded because of long history, he tried to use the skill of combining Xuan paper and oil painting together and created new type of Xuan paper oil painting. When talking about the creation origin of Xuan paper oil painting, Kong said that he went to Dunhuang for sketching from nature in 1979. Mr Fan Di’an, the curator of National Art Museum of China praised Kong that he created the unique styoe in painting, successfully realizing the innovation of materials using techniques. The painting works also give people a special and different feeling.
Opened on April 18th, Kong Baiji Oil Painting Exhibition will last until 29th, during which 100 works of solid oil painting and paper oil painting present the constantly exploration and innovation of the aged painter.
