Located in the southern suburb of the spring city Kunming, Hai Geng Park was originally constructed in the early period of the 1960s. If those foreign students have been to Dianchi Lake, the Western Mountain and the Nationality Village when they study Mandarin Chinese in Kunming, they might have been to Hai Geng Park which is in the lakeside of the pearl of the plateau Dianchi Lake. About ten kilometers away from the city center of Kunming, the transportation is convenient and the roads that lead to there are wide. The park is as long as 2.5 kilometers from the east to the west and as wide as 200 meters from the north to the south, covering an area of 750 Mu.
The south of the park is the endless Dianchi Lake and the west is the cableway connects the park and the Western Mountain. The east is close to the golf course and national sports training base. The north direction is close to the Garden Hotel and Yunnan Minority Village. According to the name Hai Geng, we can know it is a park along the lakeside. The whole park is naturally divided in to four scenic areas, the national sports winter training base in the east, the sand beach in the central part with soft sand, the sightseeing area in the west where you can enjoy the water scene and the mountain landscape as well as recuperation and tourism area in the north.
In the center of Hai Geng Park, you can see the Golden Fish Pond, Flowers Garden, Large Ethnic Village and several holiday villages. You can go there spend your holiday at ant time of the year around. Some of the foreign students who come to learn Chinese language in China may be told that Hai Geng was originally a long dam extended into Dianchi Lake in the east-west direction. It starts from Jinjiahe in the east and extends to the west until the water area which is about one kilometer away from the foot of the Western Mountain.
As long as about five kilometers, the dam is just like a jade belt floating on the surface of Dianchi Lake, dividing it into two parts. The south is the main part of Dianchi Lake which is surrounded by mountains in three sides. In this park with the combination of tourism, recreation and holiday resort as well as upholding the historical culture and humanistic landscapes, you can have fantastic view of water and mountain sceneries with fresh air.
