Gordon Site Scenic Area in Yunnan

The Gordon Site is located in 90 kilometers away in the northeastern of Weixi County, under the cliff of eastern lake of Lapu River about 500 meters away in the west of Gordon Village. The distance from the lake water surface is about 50 meters. If you attend to one-on-one Chinese leaning programs, teachers would tell you that the site was found in 1985 and cleaned and excavated by Yunnan Provincial Museum. It is said that Gordon Site was identified as the site in Neolithic Age.

There is no doubt that it filled the cultural blanks of Diqing prefecture in the period of Neolithic Age, proving that there were people living in the territory of the prefecture as early as in Neolithic Age. After making comparison of the manufacturing technology of the unearthed cultural relics with those excavated in the neighboring areas in Neolithic Age, the archaeologists found that they were not earlier than the age of Karuo Site in Tibet which is about four or five thousand years from now. And they were at least three thousand years ago.

In total, there are 60 pieces of cultural relics unearthed in Gordon Site, among which recognizable 29 pieces of stone relics, 5 pieces of pottery relics and two bone relics. Some of the foreign students who learn Chinese online free may know the stone relics were all made from natural stone textures, most of which were polished. The types of the cultural relics are mainly body polished stone axes, rectangular polished stone knives, stone cone, stone hoes and stone balls and so on.

For the pottery cultural relics, the main form is the pot, attached with the pottery pieces with holes. In addition, most unearthed pottery relics have veins, mainly the rope veins, scratch veins and plain veins. The bone relics are just two pieces with different shapes. The discovery of Gordon Neolithic Age has great significance in archaeology.

It is not only put the history of human development in Diqing forward about a thousand year, but also has great importance to research the relationship between Neolithic culture in the three rivers area in southwestern area and that in the north areas. Students who are learning Mandarin Chinese should know it provides important physical basis to research the national movement and primitive society conditions of these areas. The relics are now collected in Diqing Prefecture Museum.
