In the history of modern Yunnan, there are two most famous universities, one of which is the Southwestern Associated University and another is Yunnan Military Academy that many foreign students who study abroad in China know. Both universities have made great contribution to Yunnan and even China. The former one cultivated a group of scientists and educators while the latter trained a series of excellent strategists and revolutionists. Zhu De was once the students in Yunnan Military Academy and then became the marshal of new China. And this academy was called “the melting pot of revolution”.

Yunnan Military Academy has been founded for almost one century, but the site is still remained and was approved as the protection unit of national level cultural relic. It is located in the center of Kunming city, the western lake of the Green Lake. you can still see the yellow brick and wood structured buildings with two stories. The whole part is composed of four buildings in the east, south, west and north, which are symmetrical.

Yunnan Military Academy covers a total area of 1390 square meters. In the southwestern corner of the main building, there are one assembly hall and one weapon house. The middle of the south building is the inspection building about 15 meters high and 13 meters wide. Those who learn Chinese online free should know that square in front of it is the wide playground larger than two football fields. Unfortunately, at present, it has been replaced by Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Museum.

Nevertheless, the old courtyard house that has experienced one hundred year’s weathering still remains. Allocating with four watchtowers with 120 meters long and 10 meters wide, Yunnan Military Academy appears more magnificent. As a matter of fact, it was established in 1909 and 19 terms have been set until 1928. The students who graduated from Yunnan Military Academy were as many as 4000 people. Each term lasted for one year and a half or two year, covering the training of four arms of the services, namely, infantry, cavalry, artillery and sapper.
