Finding Main Parts of Chinese Sentence

When practicing reading, most foreigners hope to improve reading skills quickly. To reach this goal, the overseas students need not only the firm language knowledge, but also some effective reading skills. In the following parts, the reading skill of extracting the main parts of the sentences will be introduced to the Chinese language learners. The main parts abstraction is to make the long and difficult sentences become short and present the main content with the brief form. Just as all students who study Mandarin Chinese all know, there are six main parts in Chinese sentences, namely, subject, predicate, object, attribute, adverbial modifier and complement, among which the former three are jointly called the main part of a sentence.

In this way, the so called main part extraction is to find out the subject, predicate and object of a sentence. As a matter of fact, the difficulty in understanding sentences is caused by the complex structure of the sentences, mainly the complex attribute and complex adverbial modifier. Therefore, if you want to find the main part of sentence, you need to recognize the complex attribute and adverbial modifier, thus reaching the goal of understanding the sentences rapidly.

The attribute is the modifying part before subject and object and is also called the attachment element before noun. The attribute can be word, phrase and even a sentence. For example, the sentence 我们学校中文系的全体年轻女教师都参加了歌唱比赛, there are five levels of attribute which are very complicated. However, if you remember that the attribute in Chinese sentence is placed before the central part and seize the main part 教师, they can find the subject of the sentence.

For the adverbial modifier, it is the modifying element placed before the predicate or at the beginning of the sentence. When you attend to one-on-one Chinese learning programs in China, teachers would tell you that the adverbial at the beginning of sentence is also called the modifier of the whole sentence, which is usually acted by time words or preposition phrases.

Since the adverbial modifier can indicate time, location, means and objects, it is a main reason causing difficulty in understanding meaning. The sentence 我跟大卫在宿舍门口用复读机练习汉语拼音contains three levels of adverbial modifier, object, location and means. It will be more difficult if the complex predicate and adverbial modifier is combined together.
