During the period of London Book Fair, many relevant activities were held. On April 16th, the important activity of the guest China which is the global publishing ceremony of the English version of Qian Xuesen’s Collected Works (1938-1956) was held. Just as those foreign students who attend to Chinese school in China all know, Qian Xuesen is a famous scientist in China whi has made great contribution to China’s science and technology. He has published many important research papers on aerospace field.

This book is jointly published by Shanghai Jiaotong University Press and United Kingdom Elseiver Publishing Group, collecting 52 significant scientific papers written and published by Qian in English during the period when he study and work in the United States. The articles cover air dynamics, shell body stability, rocket trajectory and engine analysis, duct propulsion, engineering cybernetics and physical mechanical and so on, solving a series of key problems in aerospace field and has great importance to promote the development of the world aviation and space technology.

Liu Binjie, the direct-general of China’s state general administration of press and publications pointed out that Qian Xuesen is the pioneer and outstanding representative of China’s aerospace science and technology and some of the foreign students who learn Chinese online free may know he is known as “the father of China’s aerospace” and “people’s scientist”. The successful publishing of the English version of Qian Xuesen’s Collected Works is one of the important programs that Chinese Government organizes cultural heritage and carry forward the outstanding culture through national publishing fund.

As we know, Shanghai Jiaotong University Press is famous university press in China and the United Kingdom Elseiver Publishing Group is world famous science and technology publishing group. That both presses join hands is the successful example of promoting China’s books to the world. According to Ma Dexiu, the principle of Shanghai Jiaotong University, the university regards researching and inheriting the spirit of Qian Xuesen as an important cultural program.

Some foreign students who are learning Mandarin Chinese may be told that the national key project, that is, Qian Xuesen Library, was constructed and put into use in Shanghai Jiaotong University in 2011, making this university the collecting center of Qian’s works, the academic research center and the publishing center of Qian’s books. It is said this is the second time that both sides joint together.
