Development of the Reading Strategies in Teaching Course in TCSL

Though much research has done on the methods of TCSL, no further research is conducted to change the strategies into practical teaching contents. The research mostly centers on the perception of vocabulary and the single word. Once the reading strategies are set as the teaching goal, the planning, operation and the compiling of the teaching material will be influenced accordingly. Then the process to study Mandarin Chinese will not only involve the teaching contents of the course but also the change of the change of the role of the teachers.

The general course content focuses the arrangement of the language. But the planning of the language teaching will depend on the teachers voluntarily in class. The development of the teaching course is an essential procedure under the actual circumstance. Therefore, a complete set of teaching course should include teaching activity, teaching training, methodology leading and the roles of the learners. The experience of the actual teaching will be applied to the practical teaching process since the actual scene will help the students to use the knowledge they have learned.

According to the theories mentioned above, the research will focus on the design and development of the language teaching course. It starts from the idea to take the design and development of the language teaching course as thee main part to make a set of teaching course pattern. The concrete items include ten points. The first point is documentary discussion to conclude the structure of Chinese learning. The second point is strategy collection to gather the methods and strategies of different teacher. The third point is strategy analysis to organize the methods. The fourth point is teaching design to combine learning method with Chinese contents. The fifth point is course establishment to accomplish the textbooks and course. The sixth point is preparation to select the right object of the experiment. The seventh point is teacher training to make the teachers know the content and teaching method of the course. The eighth point is experimental teaching to teach foreign students using the method. The ninth is evaluation teaching to form formative and summative evaluation. The tenth point is course revisal to revise the set of teaching course.

The contents mentioned above might be the proper steps to make a set of teaching course centered on reading strategies. The students in school to study Mandarin are not required to remember each step. However, the teachers may have to memorize the procedures in mind to give an excellent course.
