Mangshi is a town in Luxi city, the capital city of Dehong prefecture in yunnan province. It is the only way which must be passed to go to Ruili or Wanding to participate in bordering trade activity or to Burma for bordering travel. We highly recommended students who are learning Mandarin Chinese in Yunnan to visit Dehong Ethnic Custom Sightseeing Area, which is the traveling zone in the western Yunnan, showing the colorful ethnic cultures in Dehong prefecture. Located in the city area of Mangshi, it covers the area of about one thousand Mu.
This sightseeing area connects the downtown with the picturesque Peacock Lake Scenic Area in the suburb. The structure of this area is not the traditional type of “ethnic garden” or “ethnic customs garden” famous in or out of Yunnan province, but the compound mode of classifying and collocating the history, culture, art, customs of various ethnic groups in Dehong with each other properly. It emphasizes the combination of intellectual and entertainment, the combination of visiting and participating, the collocation of ethnic customs and natural landscape, the combination of static and dynamic as well as the overall exhibition and specific performance.
If you pay a visit to the ethnic customs sightseeing area during the process attending to free Chinese lessons in Yunnan, you can see there is a ethnic activity central square in the sightseeing. When moving forward, you can see the customs village, grand golden tower and the religious culture palace as well as the simple and primitive villages of local ethnic groups. Of course, the entertaining places such as botanical garden, flowers garden, children’s play field, ethnic foods restaurants as well as shopping center for ethnic handiworks are inevitable.
Among so many facilities, the Ethnic Culture Palace was originally built in the late period of the 1980s, belonging to one of the provincial attractions in Dehong. When you see the Memorial Pavilion of former Prime Minister Zhou Enlai, you need to know it was constructed in December of 1956 to commemorate Zhou Enlai and He Long participated in the get-together party held between China and Burma after they visited Burma.
With the marble stone balusters, this pavilion is as high as 27 meters with totally 20 doors. Decorated with 28 golden peacocks, the basic architecture style of the pavilion is typical Dai people’s architecture. But the style of architectural features in Burma is also emerged.
