A week ago, a pictures exhibition named “China-From the 50s to Now” was held in Asian Cultural Center Art Gallery in New York, being hosted by China Pictures Agency of Xinhua News Agency and Asian Cultural Media Group. All 130 pictures exhibited in this exhibition were selected photographical works which have high photographical aesthetic values and are also precious historical materials.
In addition, some students who are learning Mandarin Chinese in America are so excited because many pictures were published to the public for the first time, making this exhibition more valuable for visiting. According to the introduction of Yang Song, the director of Asian Cultural Center, those pictures have experienced sixty years’ history and objectively reflected the changes of Chinese ordinary people for the last 50s to now.
Behind each picture, there is a period of history, a group of people and a kind of life. And the most ordinary and the most real life is the most valuable history. The pictures reflect the daily life of the ordinary people and the feelings of pleasure, anger, sorrow and joy. Many foreigners who learn Chinese language in China discussed that those pictures are deeply marked by the signs of history and times even though the contents are ordinary and simple. May be it is the simple and ordinary pictures which are close to the real life of ordinary people that this pictures exhibition attracted so many people to watch.
According to the introduction of several American students, the Asian Cultural Center in the United States was originally established in 1999. At present, the branches have been constructed in New York, New Jersey and Boston. The establishment of this cultural center plays great importance to the cultural exchange and spread.
Since it was founded, it is devoted to transmitting Chinese culture in overseas countries with the theme of carrying forward the traditional outstanding Chinese culture. It has undertaken many arts performances of the top arts troupes in China when visiting the US, all kinds of exhibitions and academic lectures and so on. It will continue to play its role in cultural transmission in overseas.
