In Bigu Rangeland which is located in Lianhe Village of Zhongdian Town in Shangri-la County with the altitude of 3500 meters, there is a lake covering an area of 0.21 square kilometers. With the average depth of the lake 1.62 meters, the deepest point if it is also only three meters. The lake surface is not so wide as you imagine but the lake water presents extraordinary peaceful and clear. The clear water seems a pure place decorated with the colorful trees and flowers in the surrounding place.

The 30 square kilometers area in the surrounding area of the lake is densely covered by the primitive forest with large and ancient trees, mainly the dragon spruce and Chinese fir. This dense and green forest is full of the vitality of the great nature. The lake is surrounded by the forest and is also purified by the forest. It is about 51 kilometers away from the county seat and the road reaches the lake area, hence very convenient. In Tibetan language, Bigu Tianchi Lake is called Chu Zhang, meaning a small lake. It got the name because it is situated in Bigu Rangeland. Of course, there are also many flowers decorated the lakeside, mainly the azalea with various colors such as yellow, red and white.

The flowering phase of azalea is from the middle of June to the end of July, during which all colors of azalea are in full blossom, decorating the lake. The slow slope in the north of the lake is covered by the azalea of purple and pink colors blooming from the late of May to the end of June. That is to say, as long as the overseas students who attend to HSK preparation program in China visit the lake during the period from May to July, they can enjoy beautiful and fragrant azalea flowers.

You can also see a ellipse small island in the center of the lake which is also full of azalea. Of course, the azalea is not always in blossom and the grass is also not always green. When it comes to the late autumn and winter, the sacred Tianchi Lake will be covered by snow. But the water is still clear and the trees are also green.
