About the Problems in Mandarin Teaching Videos

According to the foreign language teaching practice in so many years, we can see that the video materials are very welcomed by both sides of learners and teachers. If those foreign students who go to Chinese school to study in China have learned by the video materials, they must know clear about the benefits brought by the movie materials. All kinds of video materials can break the depressing atmosphere in the classroom teaching rapidly. The students and teachers all feel excited when the video materials are played at the very beginning.

However, the problem is that it is difficult for the teachers to select a proper video each time when they decide to make use of the video materials to process the systematical teaching. As a matter of fact, the proper video materials are very important in Chinese language teaching. There are many reasons that the video materials selected are not proper to be applied to the classroom teaching. It is not easy to find the materials which follow students’ language levels and the teaching process. Some of the materials are too long while some of them just move the contents in the books to the screen mechanically. In some cases, teachers do not understand how to use the video materials because of lacking in professional training.

The excellent video material, no matter it is about culture or language, should follow the standard of the applicable scope. To achieve this goal, the teachers need to start from the actual needs and language levels of the students and take strict control of the vocabulary and pay attention to the sentence patterns and grammar points, avoiding students losing confidence because of large vocabulary and complex sentence patterns and difficult language points. Particular attention should be paid to the language teaching materials of the beginners.

As a matter of fact, those who just begin to learn to speak Chinese have strong interest and greet curiosity. Therefore, as long as the teachers process the teaching activities step by step, they can help the students keep good learning status. In addition, the information in the video materials needs to close to the daily life. However, the information should not be too much, or they can remember by memorizing mechanically even though they understand it with the help of the teachers. Of course, it is not proper that the video teaching materials are too long but should focus on the main teaching points.
