You can choose to study Chinese in Zhangjiajie for 4 hours per day (20 hours/week) or 6 hours per day (30 hours/week). If you want to study Mandarin in China, the intensive one-on-one Chinese course is the fastest way to improve your Chinese.

• The best thing about studying in Zhangjiajie is that your teacher will accompany you to do sightseeing every day after class, to create a pure Chinese language environment for you. Your teacher will practice Chinese with you in real-life situations. Studying Chinese in Zhangjiajie not only focuses on the Chinese language but also offers a chance to explore the city with your teacher.

• If you prefer a big and vivid international student community or expect a school community experience, please choose to learn Chinese in Kunming at the Kunming campus or learn Chinese in Chengdu at the Chengdu campus.

By Air: Fly into Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport (DYG). This is the fastest option from major Chinese cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Xi’an.

By High-Speed Train: Arrive at Zhangjiajie West Railway Station. This is a highly efficient and scenic way to travel from cities like Changsha (2-3 hours), Guangzhou (6-7 hours), and others.

This is the main park where you see the famous pillar-like mountains from the Avatar movies. You can spend days hiking the many trails through the green valleys and looking up at these incredible rock formations. For great views, visit the Golden Whip Stream or take a cable car up for a panorama of the entire area. It’s a massive, beautiful place that feels like another planet, and it’s the essential Zhangjiajie experience for any visitor.

Tianmen Mountain offers thrilling man-made sights right next to the city. The long cable car ride up is an attraction itself. At the top, you can walk on narrow paths attached to the cliffside and look down through glass walkways. The main feature is the huge natural hole in the mountain, called Heaven’s Gate. You can see it after a bus ride up the winding road with 99 turns, making for an exciting and scenic day trip.

This spot is all about adventure. The main draw is the Glass Bridge, a long walkway with a transparent glass floor suspended high above the canyon. Walking across it is a real adrenaline rush as you see straight down to the ground. Beyond the bridge, the Grand Canyon itself is a peaceful and beautiful place for a walk past streams and waterfalls. It’s a perfect mix of natural scenery and a modern, thrilling experience.

Just a few hours from Zhangjiajie, step into the picture-perfect Fenghuang Ancient Town. This well-preserved town lets you experience classic China. Stroll along the riverbank past traditional wooden stilt houses and old flagstone streets. You can walk across the beautiful stone bridges, take a relaxing boat ride on the peaceful Tuo River, and see the local shops. The town is especially charming when the red lanterns glow at night. It’s the perfect, relaxed contrast to the mountains—a place to slow down and soak in centuries of history and a peaceful atmosphere.

We have arranged a day trip for you to visit Fenghuang Ancient Town.

This is a signature dish of the local Tujia people. High-quality pork is cured with salt and spices for weeks, then slowly smoked over firewood and cypress branches for a unique, rich flavor. The result is a firm, dark red bacon with a strong smoky and salty taste. It’s typically steamed or stir-fried with vegetables like garlic sprouts or hot peppers. The fat is transparent and not greasy, while the lean meat is wonderfully flavorful. It’s a hearty, preserved food that captures the essence of traditional Tujia cooking and mountain life.

Despite its nickname “Blood Tofu,” this is not made with blood. It’s a unique sausage-like dish created by mixing fresh pig’s blood, minced meat, and tofu. The mixture is then kneaded, shaped into fist-sized balls or patties, and smoked, similar to the bacon. The smoking process gives it a dark brown crust and a firm, crumbly texture. When sliced and steamed or fried, it has a deep, savory, and complex flavor. It’s a local specialty that might look challenging but is a true taste of the region’s resourceful culinary heritage.
