This is the main park where you see the famous pillar-like mountains from the Avatar movies. You can spend days hiking the many trails through the green valleys and looking up at these incredible rock formations. For great views, visit the Golden Whip Stream or take a cable car up for a panorama of the entire area. What's the year around temperature in Zhangjiajie?

Spring & Autumn are the sweet spots. Think March-May and September-November. Temperatures are mild (roughly 13-22°C / 55-72°F), and you have a better chance for clear skies and comfortable hiking. These are the best times for photography and avoiding the biggest crowds.

Summer (June-August) is warm, green, and busy. Expect daytime temps around 24-30°C (75-86°F) with high humidity and frequent rain showers. The misty peaks can look incredible, but it can also feel hot and crowded.

Winter (December-February) is cold and quiet. Temperatures often sit between 3-10°C (37-50°F). While it can be damp, this is your chance to see the sandstone pillars dusted with snow, which is absolutely magical.

The Bottom Line: Pack layers and a good rain jacket! The weather at the mountain tops is often 5-10 degrees cooler and foggier than down in the city.
