Place to Visit in Xijiang Miao Village - The Village Viewing Platforms

For the iconic postcard view, hike or take a shuttle to the viewing platforms across the valley. As the sun sets, watch a thousand households light up, transforming the mountain into a breathtaking, starry landscape. This unforgettable panorama reveals the vast scale and beautiful harmony of the village with nature. It’s the perfect spot to capture stunning photos and truly understand why this is called the “Millennial Mountain Village.” Don’t miss this magical display of light and shadow—it’s the heart of the Xijiang experience.

Place to Visit in Xijiang Miao Village - The Miao Ethnic Museum

Nestled within China’s largest Miao village in Guizhou, the Xijiang Miao Museum is an open-air cultural treasury. Rather than a single building, it integrates with the village itself. Visitors explore traditional stilted houses, witness exquisite silver craftsmanship, and admire vibrant embroidery and batik. It showcases the Miao people’s unique architecture, festivals, and rich history through artifacts and live demonstrations. This living museum offers an immersive journey into the enduring traditions and artistic heritage of the Miao community, preserving their way of life amidst the region’s stunning terraced landscapes.

Place to Visit in Xijiang Miao Village - The Old Streets (Guyang Jie)

Immerse yourself in the vibrant heart of the village by wandering its main old street. Lined with shops, you can watch local artisans create intricate silver jewelry and embroidered textiles right before your eyes. The sound of hammers shaping silver and the sight of brilliant fabrics is a feast for the senses. It’s the best place to find a unique souvenir, taste local snacks like sticky rice cakes, and feel the lively, welcoming pulse of the community’s daily life and incredible craftsmanship.

Place to Visit Nearby - Fanjingshan (Mount Fanjing)

Escape to a world of breathtaking wonder at Fanjingshan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ride a cable car up this mystical mountain to discover its unique, otherworldly landscape. Gaze in awe at the Red Cloud Golden Summit, a stunning twin-peaked temple complex perched atop a towering rock spire. A journey here feels like stepping into a fantasy world. It’s a challenging but unforgettable adventure through ancient forests and above the clouds, offering some of the most spectacular and serene views in all of China. A perfect complement to the cultural immersion of Xijiang.

We have arranged a day trip for you to visit Fanjing Mountain.

Cuisine in Xijiang Miao Village - Sour Fish Soup (酸汤鱼)

This is the absolute signature dish of the Miao people. The unique, tangy “red sour soup” is made by fermenting rice and tomatoes for a long time, creating a vibrant and appetizing flavor. Fresh fish from local rivers is then cooked in this bubbling broth. The result is a delicious and refreshing soup that is both slightly spicy and wonderfully sour. It’s a perfect representation of Miao culinary tradition, where fermentation is key. Eating this hearty soup is a must for an authentic taste of the local culture and a truly memorable dining experience.

Cuisine in Xijiang Miao Village - Bamboo Tube Rice (竹筒饭)

A delightful and aromatic specialty, Bamboo Tube Rice is both a meal and a experience. Glutinous rice, mixed with savory bits of meat or sweet red beans, is stuffed into fresh bamboo tubes and roasted over an open fire. As it cooks, the bamboo imparts a delicate, fragrant flavor into the rice. To eat it, the tube is split open, releasing a wonderful aroma. The rice inside is sticky, flavorful, and slightly smoky. It’s a fun, hands-on food that captures the essence of mountain cooking and is incredibly satisfying.

Cuisine in Xijiang Miao Village - Sticky Rice Cakes (糍粑)

When you visit Xijiang Miao Village, you will see vendors selling Sticky Rice Cakes, or Cí Bā. They are a popular local snack made from pounded sticky rice. You will typically see them as soft, white rounds or already grilled. For the best experience, ask for a cake that is freshly grilled. The vendor will warm it over charcoal until the outside is crispy and the inside is soft and stretchy. You can then choose a topping: honey for sweetness, or a savory mix of peanut and soybean powder.

Intensive One-on-One Chinese Classes

I really enjoy this place because we have private Mandarin lessons. I took the 6-hour program, 4 hours in the morning, 2 in the afternoon. Even though it is quite a lot, the teaching is complimentary. This is very helpful because I could review what I did before and learn new things. My 2 teachers are fantastic. We live in the school, so it is convenient. It is interesting to me to meet people from all over the world.
