Tongue Twisters Competition Is Around the Corner

Tongue twister is an interesting way to practice your Chinese speaking skills. At Keats, tongue twister is an important tool when we teach Chinese. Classical tongue twisters are selected to help the students improve the pronunciation and fluency. We are very excited to announce that the Tongue Twisters Competition of Keats School, the first big event in 2014, will be held in April.

The competition divides into two stages: initials and finals. Any student is very welcome to take part in the competition, because we have prepared tons of prizes. The initial contest will be held among the students in the small group classes and one-on-one students. The students who pass the initial contest will participate the final contest. We will post 10 most popular tongue twisters this week and all the students will have one week to prepare. The initial contest will start from next week. Here is how the competition works: one tongue twister will be chosen by drawing lots. The students will randomly choose one tongue twister and perform the chosen one. Lastly, the teacher, who is the judge, will give his/her score according to the pronunciation, fluency, and pause to select the winners for initial contest. In addition to the standard sessions, one more session called “limited read out” is added to make the contest more entertaining.

Of course, in order to keep the fairness of the competition, the teacher will read the tongue twisters first. If the teacher makes a mistake, the teacher will be punished to sing a song. We believe the competition will be full of laughs and funs.

One secret that we will release here about the tongue twisters that will appear during the competition is to check out the song “中国话”. Hope this song can be some help when you prepare for the competition. Now let’s count down to the grand opening of the competition.

Intensive One-on-One Chinese Classes

I’ve been at Keats school and Kunming now for one month doing the one-on-one Chinese lessons with two different teachers. I really enjoy it. Both of my teachers are very friendly and patient. They really helped me to improve my Chinese, both of my reading and speaking. I really enjoy studying Chinese in Kunming as well. This city is really beautiful and the weather is nice, the air is clean. It’s one of the best cities in China to study Chinese.

My first semester that I studied at another school, and the pressure there was pretty high, the classroom hour was long, and the homework was pretty tedious. Since I came to Keats, I found I have a lot more opportunities to speak in the classroom. My classmates all are fluent and love speaking and participating in the class. We have great classroom dynamic.

I’ve had an amazing time at Keats. I am amazed at how much I’ve learned over the last 3 weeks and I will be really sad to go. We are already planning on our next trip of coming back because we had such a fantastic time here. They really tailor the Chinese language course to you and your individual needs.

Intensive One-on-One Chinese Classes

So during my first week at Keats, I didn’t dare to speak any Chinese words. I found out that my Chinese level quickly improved since then. Although I have many options to study in China, for example, some other schools have homestay, I found I could immerse myself and fully focus on learning Chinese by staying at Keats.

Intensive One-on-One Chinese Classes

My name is Sarah Fish. I am 81. I knew very little Chinese when I arrived. How was I going to survive 2 weeks of intensive Chinese course? I have to laugh when I think of that now. What a positive experience this has been! I really wish we could be here a little longer. The teachers are extremely encouraging, evaluating first how much someone knows, and then starting from there.

I think the Chinese learning environment here is great. The teaching methods are also very interactive and fun. What I particularly enjoy here is the fact that my teacher does not stick to the textbook. We spend a lot of time discussing general topics, such as Chinese culture, world news, typical expressions used by local people. We also discuss social and economic topics.
