The private one-on-one Chinese language program has been the most popular program since the school started in 2004. We develop personalized learning materials exclusively for you to meet your learning goals and requirements. Intensive and immersive one-on-one Chinese instruction provides you with more opportunities to practice your spoken Chinese and get a real-time correction. Keats School opens all year round, including the national holidays. You can come to study ANYTIME according to your schedule. You will be assigned an academic advisor who will help make your transition to studying in China easier. Study, Live and Dine in ONE Building
You do not have to catch a bus and rush to school in Kunming from where you live, and you do not have to search for where to eat after class; because you can study, eat and live in ONE BUILDING at the Kunming campus. This is really hard to find when you study Chinese in China and take a full-time Chinese immersion course in China. Keats owns 54 single dorm rooms with private bathrooms at the Kunming headquarters. Most of the time, the school is fully booked. Make sure you register early enough to get a room in the school building.
Chinese Language Immersion Program
There are two choices for one-on-one Chinese language classes: 4 hours per day (20 hours per week) and 6 hours per day (30 hours per week). You can choose the level of intensity according to your needs. If your time to study in China is very limited and you want to make the most out of your time at Keats, 6 hours per day is recommended. If you are on vacation and want to have a relaxed schedule while making solid progress, 4 hours per day is recommended. The intensive one-on-one Mandarin course is the best language immersion program in China for adults/teenagers. If you want to take a summer Chinese immersion program, this is the best for you.
CULTURAL CLASSES
Chinese Calligraphy
If you want to bring back gifts for your family and friends, a beautiful work of Chinese calligraphy written by you couldn’t be better. After taking 3 to 5 lessons in Chinese calligraphy, our students can write their own works of Chinese calligraphy. One Chinese calligraphy lesson is 2 hours, and there are two lessons per week. They are arranged either in the evening or when you are not taking the Chinese language course. Your Chinese calligraphy teacher Master Liu is a famous calligraphy artist who can also speak English.
Chinese Tai Chi/Kung Fu
If you want to keep healthy, Tai Chi/Taiji or Kung Fu can be an excellent choice when you learn Mandarin Chinese in China. When you practice Tai Chi, you will learn the hard and soft martial art technique and enjoy the philosophy of Yin and Yang. Tai Chi and Kung Fu are suitable for self-defense, aesthetic appeal, and physical and mental health. One Tai Chi/Kung Fu lesson is 2 hours, and there are two lessons per week.
Chinese Cooking
If you want to take tasty Chinese cuisine back home, take our Chinese cooking class because we will teach you how to prepare delicious Chinese food. You may wonder why the Kong Pao Chicken served at Keats is way more delicious than the one served in Chinatown in your country. At Keats, you will find the answer and the secret behind Chinese cooking. After taking the Chinese cooking class, you will be able to prepare your own food at home and surprise your friends at a party or family gathering. You will learn to cook two dishes in each cooking lesson and two lessons per week.
Chinese Musical Instruments
The Chinese musical instrument can be chosen from Guzheng, Erhu, Pipa, and Hulusi. Guzheng, Erhu, and Pipa have thousands of years of history and have distinctive sounds. Guzheng and Pipa were critical musical instruments in ancient Chinese palaces and were favored by many Chinese emperors. Erhu, which originated from Tang Dynasty, was very popular in the northern area. Hulusi is a typical Yunnan musical instrument and a classic representation of minority music. The Chinese musical instrument is 2 hours per lesson, two lessons per week.

About studying Chinese here, I think the living condition is very convenient because the dorm is very close to the classroom. Our teachers really enjoy teaching Chinese. They are also very passionate. Compared with other cities in China, Kunming has really good weather.

I have 2 teachers, and I do 4 hours a day. So I have got Dong Laoshi and Jin Laoshi. Both of them are very good. They made the experience very nice to me. At Keats, I have a lot of opportunities to practice what I have learned. In the one-to-one intensive Chinese course, you can choose the learning method you like. The small group Chinese class in China at Keats follows the HSK textbook. Teachers often collect feedback from the students, teachers listen to our requirements and opinions. I felt that my oral level is better than before .
Listening and speaking in the classroom every day has improved my communication skills. After three weeks, my new words and sentences became more and more natural and fluent. Is there an age limit to attend this program?
There is no age limit to study at Keats. Our previous students are from 5 years old to 85 years old. The intensive one-on-one Chinese program is entirely customized and tailor-made. Your teacher will prepare the lessons according to your level of Chinese and your learning goals to ensure that you learn the most Chinese in the shortest possible time. The Intensive One-on-one Chinese course will be designed to target your weakness and help you learn Chinese at your own pace.

You can register here or click the “APPLY NOW” button on the right top and send the deposit of USD 200 to reserve your room and your teacher at Keats. After we receive your deposit, we will send you a booking confirmation and an invoice with payment details for the balance. Then you can arrange the payment through bank transfer. After you receive the visa supporting materials from us, you will be ready to apply for a student visa at the Chinese embassy or visa center in your country. Can I choose multiple locations and combine them? Would I be able to vary the cities every two weeks? For example, 2 weeks Kunming, 2 weeks Dali, 2 weeks Lijiang, etc.?
Yes, definitely. Offering these locations for studying Chinese is to encourage students to combine different places so that students can have an immersion experience in the Chinese language and culture. Feel free to combine any of the places and adjust the course duration for each place.
Suggestions:
- If your goal is to improve your Mandarin Chinese as soon as possible, and you hope the program to be as intensive and immersive as possible. In that case, you can choose the Kunming campus because it offers more facilities and activities and is located in the city center of Kunming with a metro station downstairs. This offers great convenience for life and opportunities for studying. You can travel to Dali, Lijiang, Xishuangbanna, Tengchong, Puzhehei, etc., on weekends.
- If you aim to improve your Chinese while exploring the stunningly beautiful scenery and the diverse minority cultures in Yunnan, feel free to combine different locations with setting yourself in vacation mode.

I want to study at different locations, is the transportation fee between different locations included in the tuition?
Transportation between different locations is not included in the tuition fee. Since most locations are in Yunnan, it is easy to get from one to the other. We offer free pick-ups and drop-offs from train stations/airports at all of our locations. For example, after you finish your program in Kunming and would like to start your program in Dali, we will take you to the airport or train station in Kunming. After you arrive at the airport or train station in Dali, we will pick you up there and take you to the school. Below are sample routes and their costs:
Kunming → Dali: High-speed train, 2.5 hours, RMB 150 one way
Kunming → Lijiang: High-speed train, 3.5 hours, RMB 230 one way
Kunming → Puzhehei: High-speed train, 1 hour, RMB 75 one way
Kunming → Jianshui: High-speed train, 2.5 hours, RMB 60 one way
Kunming → Xishuagnbanna: High-speed train, 3.5 hours, RMB 300 one way
Kunming → Tengchong: Flight, 1.5 hours, RMB 400 one way
Kunming → Yuanyang: High-speed train, 3 hours, RMB 80 one way
Kunming -> Jingmai Tea Mountain: Flight, 1 hour, RMB 750 one way, or high-speed train, 3 hours, RMB 160 one way
You can’t book the train ticket at a very early time. You can book the train ticket around 2 to 3 weeks before the trip. If you decide to take the train, we will be happy to help you to book the train tickets.
What's the check-in date and check-out date?
Your accommodation at Keats starts on Sunday. You can arrive on a Sunday and start your lessons on Monday. The check-out date is Saturday after you finish your lessons on Friday. If it is hard to find the best flight to arrive on Sunday or to leave on Saturday and you need to arrive one day earlier or leave one day later, that’s also possible. The extra cost for accommodation in Kunming is RMB 200/night.
Are there other housing options besides the school dorms, e.g., living with a Chinese family?
Yes, the Chengde campus can offer homestay for your accommodation. The homestay in Chengde also includes one meal per day with the Chinese family. Benefits of homestay when you learn Chinese in China:

Will I be able to meet other students if I take the one-on-one lessons?
If you take the one-on-one lessons in Kunming, you will meet other students during mealtime, you will have fun together by participating in all Keats activities, and you will hang out together after class if you make some new friends here. One-on-one means you will have the Chinese class in a 1-to-1 setting (one teacher teaches only one student in the class), but you will have the chance to explore many cool things with other students after class.
