According to the legend, when Cangjie created Chinese characters, he noticed not only everything in the universe, but also the human race itself. Chinese characters, therefore, reflect not only the Chinese people’s understanding of the world but also their understanding of the human body. Many Chinese characters are related to the human body.
Study Chinese: 化 (hua, “change”)
This is a little similar to the character “北”, also it depicts two people, but one is standing and the other is upside-down. This character, therefore, represented the life changes that people experience between birth and death. This is the character “化”, which means “change”. In the past, therefore, nature was known as “大化” (da hua: “big changes”).
Since chemistry is the branch of science that studies material changes, the Chinese people refer to chemistry as “化学” (hua xue: literally, “the study of change”). According to the very famous Chinese novel “A Journey to the West”, the Monkey King protected his master to go to India to get the classic books of Buddhism. He can change into 72 different kinds of changes, including human beings and animals or objects. That is “72 changes (bian hua)”.
