London Book Fair Characterized by Chinese Style

The London Book Fair was held on the day of April 16th, during which Chinese books global publishing ceremonies and the dialogues between the writers and scholars from China and Britain were held. Some students who study abroad in China said that the five-star flag was flowing on the gate of the exhibition hall and many Chinese faces can be seen in the exhibition hall. All of those made the London Book Fair held in Earls Court Exhibition Centre were characterized by Chinese style.

China’s exhibition hall of the guest of honor covers a total area of 2019 square meters, making it the largest one in the history of London Book Fair. The layout of it is meticulously designed. The other side of Chinese exhibition booth is a “book river” composed of more than ten thousand high quality books with both Chinese and English versions. Around the activity area is the unit for the selection books, digital publishing and ancient books publishing and printing arranged with clockwise order.

Seeing from the upper of the exhibition booth, you can see the five units are colored as red, grey, blue, white and yellow. In addition, the five elements in Chinese culture, namely, metal, wood, water, fire and earth are emerged into the exhibition areas. Some overseas learners who study Mandarin online may be told that most British audiences were attracted by the making process of engraving watermark in the center of the exhibition booth. James Whale who went especially for book fair said that the design of Chinese exhibition booth is very creative because it shows the process of birth of characters, art of printing and digitizing publishing in limited space.

When the book fair just began, a series of dialogues and discussions happened. The scholars, cultural celebrities from both countries processed the exchanges in the fields of publishing, culture and films and so on. In the following activity, the famous directors in both sides also mentioned the relationship of film and literature.

Lu Chuan said that literature is the kernel power of the development of film because many excellent Chinese films originate from the outstanding literary works. Some students in group Chinese class in China may thing books and films have nothing to do with each other and the filming is actually a process of recreation. All in all, this book fair is a comprehensive exchange in books and relevant cultural elements.
