In special questions, “几”and “多少”are special question words used to ask questions about number n free Chinese lesson. Their translations are “how many”. Thus students will feel confused that which one should be chosen when they are making sentences or speaking. Generally, both of the two words can be used.
e.g.你的房间是几/多少号？（nǐ de fánɡ jiān shì jǐ / duō shǎo hào）
桌子上有几/多少本书？（zhuō zi shànɡ yǒu jǐ / duō shǎo běn shū）
But there are also some differences. “几”is used to ask the number under ten, number above ten should use “多少”

4. 这些水果五十块钱。（zhè xiē shuí ɡuǒ wǔ shí kuài qián）——这些水果多少钱？（zhè xiē shuí ɡuǒ duō shǎo qián）
