Learning Chinese Structures A也好,B也好

The most effective way to study Chinese language is to put the learners in the Chinese language environment. During this process, the learners should learn some frequently used sentences structures so that they can understand what Chinese people are saying. The sentence of the pattern A也好,B也好is one of the common structures which is often applied to indicate that it is such situation in any case just like 篮球也好,足球也好,我都没什么兴趣.

For better use, you should realize that both A and B in this structure are used to enumerate the different situations, different things or different aspects. You should also know that 好does not mean “good”. You can say 明天我们打算一起去郊区,你去也好,不去也好,今天晚上告诉我一下.

You may also hear Chinese people say 爱帮不帮but you just do not understand. As a matter of fact, the sentence structure爱A不A in Chinese language means to let somebody’s behavior or something else go unchecked. Foreigners who learn Mandarin should know here A is often a verb, and auxiliary verb or adjective. When using it, you should pay attention to the tone because it carries the tone of not caring it or showing dissatisfaction. For example,甲:楼里的电灯不亮了,你怎么不换一个?乙:爱亮不亮,又不是我弄坏的.

From the appearance, the structure just mentioned above is similar with the 爱A(就)A. But actually, it is not like that. When we speak the sentences of the latter structure, we usually intend to indicate that a person can do something absolutely according to his own will. For example, 这个饭馆儿是自助的,菜都在那边,你们爱吃什么(就)吃什么.

Generally speaking, the part A is a phrase containing interrogative words. When you learn Chinese in China, you may find that 就 is often omitted in colloquial expressions. Another point you should pay attention to is that it shows the tone of impatience sometimes like in the following dialogue. 甲:你们这儿的服务太差了,我要找你们领导反映。乙:你爱找谁找谁。
