Lama Tower of Tibetan Buddhism

You may have seen many Buddhist towers in China during the process you learn Chinese in China, which regard the pavilion with the main composition elements. However, the Lama Tower of Tibetan Buddhism has great difference with the inland towers. It looks like a bottle, originating from India.

The earliest existing Lama Tower is the tower of Miaoying Temple in Beijing, which was built by one Nepalese named Anige. If you study Chinese in China, you should know the whole tower is as high as 51 meters. It is round and hollow. It is recorded that there are many patterns and images of Tibetan Buddhism were inscribed in the body of this Lama Tower. But students who study Mandarin in China no longer see them. Most parts of the tower are made by stones painted into white, hence the name “Jade Tower”.

The ratio of the whole tower is proper, making it symmetrical and harmonious. For this kind of Lama Tower, foreigners who learn Chinese in China should know that the towers of Juezhen Temple in Beijing and Biyun Temple are famous.
