Chinese Qi

As we know, the ancient Chinese people believed that the entire world was composed of five basic elements: metal, wood, water, fire and earth. However, all these basic elements are composed of “Qi”. In Chinese, the character was originally written as three horizontal lines; it resembles airflow or a stream of gas. “Qi” is shapeless, invisible and intangible. However, the Chinese have a saying that goes, “when ‘Qi’ aggregates, matter are formed; when matter becomes dispersed, it once again becomes ‘Qi’”. All changes that occur in nature, including the growth of living beings, rely on “Qi”. The Chinese people believe that human beings are composed of the essence of “Qi”. So that’s why the traditional Chinese Taiji emphasizes “Qi” a lot when you are practicing. It advocates the free flow of energy inside of your body, but not only trying to model the actions.
